Job Description
Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description This hands-on Electrical Engineer role focuses on supporting and owning electrical design work for multiple PCBA-based products that are in late-stage development and new product efforts. You will work across the full product lifecycle, from schematic and PCB layout through board bring-up, testing, EMI/EMC support, and documentation. The position is not purely senior, but it requires someone who can ramp up quickly, work independently, and contribute immediately to ongoing hardware development in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Support and own electrical design work across multiple PCBA-based products throughout the product lifecycle. Contribute to schematic capture and PCB layout, including reviewing and modifying existing designs as needed. Assist with board bring-up activities, including powering up new boards, validating functionality, and performing late-stage design validation. Act as the primary electrical engineer on assigned portions of projects, owning specific sections of board bring-up and electrical functionality. Develop and maintain clear, accurate design documentation for new and existing electrical designs. Support EMI/EMC testing efforts, including taking products to third-party test houses and working through test results and compliance issues. Provide a second set of eyes on existing designs during final validation phases to identify potential issues and improvements. Use standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and logic analyzers to debug and validate hardware. Collaborate closely with other electrical engineers and cross-functional team members to troubleshoot issues and drive designs to completion. Take ownership of assigned projects from start to finish, ensuring designs move smoothly from concept through validation and into production. Essential Skills Proven experience working through the full product lifecycle, from initial design through validation, documentation, and production. Hands-on PCBA experience with real production hardware, including bring-up and debug. Practical experience with schematic capture and exposure to PCB layout, with the ability to support and modify designs independently. Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware issues in a lab environment. Comfort working independently with minimal ramp-up time and contributing immediately to active projects. Strong understanding of digital hardware fundamentals, including digital signals and how to identify and debug them. Experience interfacing microcontrollers with external circuitry and basic familiarity with communication protocols such as I²C. Foundational analog and power skills, including signal integrity and signal switching fundamentals. Experience with simple amplifier circuits (gain stages), protection circuitry, and transistor basics such as NPN devices. Experience driving PWM-controlled loads, such as heaters or similar devices. Ability to create and maintain clear, well-structured electrical design documentation. Ability to work confidently with standard lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power supplies, and logic analyzers. Solid understanding of both analog and digital fundamentals and how they apply to real-world hardware designs. Demonstrated ability to take projects from start to finish with ownership and accountability. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout is highly desirable. Previous exposure to EMI/EMC test houses and compliance testing, including troubleshooting test failures. Experience working with complex multilayer boards, even if layout responsibility was partial. Background in fast-paced hardware development environments where quick iteration and hands-on work are common. Familiarity with C programming is a plus, particularly for understanding how firmware interacts with hardware, though firmware development is not required. Experience with digital circuit design and broader digital hardware concepts. Additional experience with analog circuits, power management, and protection design is beneficial. Strong collaborative approach and communication skills when working with other electrical engineers and cross-functional teams. Work Environment This role is 100% on-site at a hardware-focused facility in Portland, OR (SW 72nd Ave area). You will work in a lab-centric environment that relies heavily on standard electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and related tools to support board bring-up, debug, and validation. The work involves frequent hands-on interaction with production PCBA hardware, as well as visits to third-party EMI/EMC test houses for compliance testing. The position is structured as a 6-month contract and operates within a fast-paced hardware development setting where engineers take ownership of designs from concept through validation. The culture emphasizes practical problem-solving, close collaboration with other engineers, and a strong focus on delivering robust, production-ready hardware.
