Essential Skills + Demonstrated experience in PLC programming, including development, modification, and troubleshooting of PLC logic. + Proficiency with Rockwell platforms and RSLogix software for PLC programming and configuration. + Hands-on experience in HMI programming and configuration for industrial automation systems. + Strong knowledge in controls engineering, particularly in automated material handling and sortation systems. + Working knowledge of VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) and their integration into control systems. + Familiarity with Ethernet-based industrial communication networks used in automation environments. + Ability to read, interpret, and explain electrical drawings and schematics to team members and onsite staff. + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. + Knowledge of PLC programs and control system fundamentals. + Experience using AutoCAD for creating and modifying electrical and control system drawings. + Willingness and ability to travel 50-70% of the time to project sites. + Flexibility to work varying hours when traveling and supporting onsite activities. + Capability to work effectively from a home office and communicate clearly with remote and onsite teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Internship experience in controls engineering, automation, or a related field. + Experience with materials handling and sortation systems in logistics, warehousing, or distribution environments. + Exposure to large-scale automation projects in facilities such as warehouses and parcel handling sites. + Comfort working within a small, dynamic startup environment with evolving processes and responsibilities. + Ability to operate effectively with a high degree of autonomy while managing multiple projects and travel commitments. + Preference for candidates located in the Midwest region and able to work in an eastern time zone schedule. Work Environment This role is primarily remote, with the Controls Engineer working out of a home office and traveling frequently to project sites across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The position follows a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 or 5:00 p.m., with hours varying when traveling or supporting onsite commissioning and troubleshooting.
