Controls engineers design and develop systems for numerous markets to include building automation, data centers, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, oil/gas, wastewater, and more. This position will be performing daily tasks to include programming, HMI graphical development, drawing updates/review, status updates, etc. regarding the customer account(s) as assigned. You will oversee the production of various types of elements within the controls engineering field. An important competency in this position is to research, test, and analyze ideas for possible system and process improvements. Success in this role will be demonstrated by meeting safety and quality standards while driving revenue increases through improved production processes. As a Controls Engineer III, this position serves as a mentor role for Controls Engineer I and II positions and equivalent levels. This is an intermediate-level position that combines tenure with technical knowledge, allowing for greater contribution across multiple aspects of the department. This role is designed to prepare individuals for advancement into senior-level roles, with progression determined by demonstrated experience, sustained performance over time, and business needs. This is reflected through increased technical leadership and greater impact on project execution. Key Responsibilities Troubleshoot issues related to processes and hardware Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to identify problems and implement solutions Provide technical assistance and guidance to internal and external customers as needed Work with vendors to perform controls related tasks Meet defined performance metrics Perform PLC programming for moderate control sequences Perform moderate HMI graphical programming including object updates coding naming structure and visibility Perform network updates including IP addressing and VLAN configurations Integrate equipment using communication protocols including Modbus BACnet and SNMP Mentor junior team members Read controls wiring schematics and perform red line updates Work on customer job sites remotely with minimal supervision Travel as required including international travel Preferred Skills and Qualifications Ignition (Inductive Automation), Rockwell Automation, ControlLogix, Allen Bradley experience preferred PLC programming experience with Rockwell Siemens and or Schneider preferred Experience with AutoCAD Excellent communication skills Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to determine customer needs and develop project specifications and scope Project management experience Ability to interpret and implement specifications Advanced understanding of VLANs and networking Proficient with Microsoft Windows OS and Mac OS Excellent documentation and written skills Education Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering computer science or relevant field experience Experience 3-7 years of controls engineering experience Equal Opportunity & Inclusion Statement SMCiS is an equal opportunity employer.
