Job Description

Electrical Automation Design Engineer W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. United States, Arizona, Phoenix 32470 North North Valley Parkway (Show on map) May 20, 2026 About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Automation Engineer to join our team in developing and maintaining medical device manufacturing equipment. In this role, you will be involved in electrical design, software design, specification development, installation, startup, project management, and support for new and existing equipment and systems. You will work with both internal and external partners to design electrical schematics, program PLCs and peripherals, and support unique medical manufacturing equipment within Gore. This position will be located at our facility in Phoenix, Arizona, with the possibility of a hybrid workarrangement. Responsibilities
Perform electrical design and hands-on support for process equipment (e.g., drives, programmable logic controller [PLC] logic programming, human-machine interfaces [HMIs], wiring schematics, power systems, instrumentation, and motor control systems)
Architect, write, simulate, and test structured unique machine software for Allen-Bradley PLCs
Work with process engineers to improve and optimize existing equipment and designs
Be an integral member of a project team that specifies, constructs, commissions and supports design and validation of manufacturing equipment
Work closely with vendors on the design and purchase of new equipment and modification to existing systems
Troubleshoot and support existing process and auxiliary equipment
Create and/or update software and electrical specifications and documentation
Partner with maintenance technicians to troubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls issues with automated manufacturing equipment
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree (including Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as an Automation Engineer working with automation or electromechanical systems in industrial environments
Minimum 3 years experience designing and deploying custom PLC logic for automated manufacturing systems, including ladder logic programming and integration with HMI platforms
Demonstrated experience leading, prioritizing, and completing multiple technical projects and daily tasks
Experience performing electrical design and hands-on support for manufacturing equipment
Experience with industrial drives and controls
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and machine safety practices
Ability to translate ambiguous customer needs to defined equipment requirements
Ability and desire to work in a hands-on medical device manufacturing environment
Ability to travel up to 10% Desired Qualifications
Experience with Allen Bradley drive programming, temperature controllers, and robotics
Computer-Aided Design (CAD) drawing experience to generate schematics, 3D electrical panel layouts, and other documentation
