Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description This role offers an opportunity for a degreed Electrical Engineer with 3+ years of building design experience to design, model, and document electrical systems for a wide range of facilities, including K-12, higher education, government, healthcare, mission critical, and historic preservation projects. You will work daily in AutoCAD and Revit to develop power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low‑voltage system designs that comply with applicable codes and standards, while collaborating closely with a team of engineers and designers in a highly supportive, development-focused environment. Responsibilities Design, model, and draft building electrical system components, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low‑voltage systems for various project types such as K-12, higher education, government, healthcare, mission critical, and historic preservation facilities. Use AutoCAD and Revit on a daily basis to produce accurate electrical system layouts, details, and schematics. Develop detailed drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to support all phases of project delivery. Apply knowledge of national, state, and local building codes, energy codes, and relevant industry standards to ensure electrical designs meet regulatory requirements. Perform electrical calculations and analyses to support system sizing, equipment selection, and code compliance. Review and help evaluate submittals and shop drawings to verify conformance with design intent and project specifications. Support construction‑phase activities by responding to requests for information, assisting with field questions, and addressing design-related issues as they arise. Interpret and work from technical documents and drawings, ensuring accuracy and consistency across project deliverables. Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers, contributing to a flat, team-oriented structure. Rotate through different market sectors and work under different project managers approximately every six months to broaden technical exposure and project experience. Participate in professional development activities, such as performance reviews, in-house seminars, and technical presentations, to support ongoing growth and advancement. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Minimum of 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering for building design. Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical system design, modeling, and drafting. Proficiency with Revit for 3D modeling and coordination of electrical systems. Experience in electrical system design, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low‑voltage systems. Ability to perform design-related calculations and interpret technical documents and drawings with strong attention to detail. Familiarity with applicable building and energy codes and industry standards, such as NEC, IBC, and IECC. Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and stakeholders. Strong teamwork skills and ability to work collaboratively within a structured project team. Eligibility to work on projects requiring federal experience and drug screening, in accordance with client contract requirements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Experience using other relevant electrical design or 3D modeling software tools is beneficial. Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development, including participation in technical organizations, seminars, and presentations. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining high-quality deliverables. Comfort working across a variety of market sectors, such as educational, governmental, healthcare, mission critical, and historic facilities. Work Environment This position is based in an office in Owings Mills, MD, working as part of a collaborative team of engineers and designers within a linear, flat organizational structure. Team members work in the office Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with a six-hour workday on Fridays performed from home. The role involves daily use of AutoCAD, Revit, and other engineering tools in a highly interactive, mentorship-focused environment. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $46.46 - $69.12/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
