Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description Join our team to lead the firmware and communications for our fleet device upgrade program. You will be responsible for planning and executing firmware rollouts to field controllers, ensuring secure device-to-device communication, and managing access-layer key rotation for in-scope devices. The ideal candidate will have strong embedded and communications fundamentals and the ability to quickly learn our controller and gateway platforms. Responsibilities Own the firmware rollout for both connected and non-connected devices. Define supported versions and perform compatibility checks across device families. Design rollout strategies such as pilot, canary, and phased deployment with clear success criteria. Maintain rollback and recovery plans for failed or partial upgrades. Implement and operate encryption workflows for connected sites using internal tools and monitoring platforms. Manage partially connected or intermittently online devices by defining 'forced completion' or exception flows. Track health and progress through dashboards, alerts, and structured reports. Design and document step-by-step on-site procedures for non-connected sites. Define key management procedures for field execution. Specify verification and acceptance criteria for device state, communication tests, and audit logs. Develop and maintain key-rotation tooling and runbooks for fleet devices. Align procedures with internal security policies, considering practical constraints. Partner with internal tools and operations teams to improve observability and error handling. Provide escalation support to Technical Services during firmware and communication-layer changes. Contribute to post-incident reviews and continuous improvement of rollout playbooks. Essential Skills 2+ years in firmware, embedded systems, or network/communications engineering. Hands-on experience with wireless mesh, low-power RF protocols, fieldbus/industrial communication protocols, or other distributed device networks. Familiarity with large-scale firmware deployment, including rollback patterns. Solid understanding of secure communication and key management, including symmetric/asymmetric keys and PKI concepts. Comfort working with remote operations and field teams during planned maintenance windows.
To clarify scope:
The role is not focused on developing new firmware from scratch for a single product. It is focused on deploying and validating control and firmware changes on operating solar tracker systems in the field — things like: Rolling out approved firmware versions to fleet devices. Implementing encryption / key-rotation changes on electronic components. Adjusting tracker control and wind-stow parameters at live sites. Knowledge of SCADA/industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC-UA, etc.), will be a plus. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to power electronics, industrial controls, or SCADA/PLC-style environments.
