Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description This Electrical Engineer role focuses on supporting the design, documentation, and coordination of electrical systems across a variety of project types. You will help develop power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems while building a strong technical foundation and gaining exposure to NYC codes and industry best practices. The position offers structured mentorship, cross-discipline collaboration, and a clear path for professional growth within a supportive, team-oriented culture. Responsibilities Assist in the design and layout of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for a range of building types. Prepare detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation using AutoCAD and/or Revit under the guidance of senior engineers. Perform basic electrical calculations such as load calculations, lighting layouts, and panel schedules to support design development. Coordinate closely with mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and construction teams throughout all phases of the project to ensure integrated and constructible designs. Support field surveys and site visits to gather existing conditions data and verify installation against design documents. Assist with construction administration activities, including reviewing submittals and helping respond to requests for information (RFIs) under senior engineer guidance. Interpret and apply NYC building codes, energy codes, and internal design standards to ensure compliance and consistency across projects. Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including drawings, calculations, and correspondence. Support quality control efforts by reviewing drawings and documents for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards. Contribute to a collaborative team environment by communicating clearly with colleagues and participating in multidisciplinary coordination meetings. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field. 0-2 years of professional experience; internships or co-op experience in MEP design are beneficial. Working knowledge of AutoCAD for preparing electrical drawings and documentation. Basic understanding of building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems. Fundamental knowledge of electrical engineering principles and calculations, such as load calculations and lighting layouts. Strong organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail in drawings, calculations, and documentation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and take direction from senior engineers. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience using Revit for electrical design and coordination is preferred. Familiarity with NYC building codes and energy codes is advantageous. Exposure to or experience with MEP design projects through internships or co-ops. EIT certification or active progress toward professional licensure is a plus. Interest in sustainability and energy-efficient design practices. Motivation to learn across all MEP disciplines through mentorship and structured training. Work Environment This role follows a hybrid work model, with approximately two days in the office and three days working from home each week. The in-office environment is professional, collaborative, and team-oriented, with regular interaction among electrical, mechanical, plumbing, architectural, and construction professionals. You will use tools such as AutoCAD and Revit, along with standard office software, to produce and coordinate design documentation.
