Water/Wastewater Position Summary The Controls Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, and delivery of instrumentation and control system solutions for industrial and infrastructure-related projects. This role is involved throughout the full project lifecycle, including system programming, engineering design, documentation development, equipment specification, and commissioning support. The position works in a team-oriented environment and collaborates closely with engineering, operations, and project personnel to ensure projects are completed efficiently and meet technical and operational requirements. Key Responsibilities Control Systems Design & Programming Design, configure, test, and troubleshoot programmable control systems used in industrial applications Review project specifications, process information, and technical requirements to support system development and execution Develop control narratives, functional descriptions, and related system documentation Assist with the implementation and integration of automation and control solutions across a variety of platforms Engineering & Technical Documentation Create and maintain electrical and control system drawings, including schematics, loop diagrams, layouts, and supporting engineering documentation Perform equipment sizing and selection calculations as required for project applications Develop and maintain bills of materials and associated technical documentation Prepare project deliverables including submittals, design revisions, and engineering documentation packages Coordinate with internal teams to support fabrication, assembly, and implementation activities Project Coordination & Commissioning Collaborate with project teams and technical resources throughout all stages of project execution Participate in testing, system validation, and startup activities Support field commissioning efforts, troubleshooting activities, and performance optimization Provide customer support, training, and operational guidance when required Reporting Structure This role works alongside engineering leadership and project teams while maintaining regular interaction with cross-functional departments to support successful project execution. Qualifications & Skills Experience working with industrial control systems, automation technologies, and programmable control platforms Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, process documentation, and engineering diagrams Experience developing engineering drawings and project deliverables Knowledge of instrumentation systems, process controls, and analog/digital I/O integration Familiarity with SCADA, HMI, or other visualization platforms is beneficial Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities Education & Experience Candidates should possess one of the following combinations of education and experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline with applicable experience Associate degree in a technical field with relevant industry experience Equivalent combination of practical industry experience and technical education Preferred Certifications The following certifications or technical credentials are preferred but not required: Automation or controls-related certifications Industry-recognized technical certifications Comparable training or relevant experience Physical Requirements Ability to work with computers and technical equipment for extended periods Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout office and active work environments Ability to lift and transport equipment or materials when necessary Ability to access elevated work locations and restricted areas when required Sufficient visual and auditory capabilities to safely perform job responsibilities Travel Requirements Travel to customer locations and project sites may be required Overnight travel may be necessary depending on project schedules and business needs Work Environment This role includes both office-based work and active project environments. Employees may occasionally be exposed to changing environmental conditions, operating equipment, elevated work areas, confined spaces, and other field-related conditions.
