Senior Electrical Engineer Job Description The Senior Electrical Engineer leads electrical design for a wide range of building projects and delivery models, including design/bid/build, design assist, and full design. This role develops complete contract documents from schematic design through construction, applies advanced engineering principles to electrical distribution, lighting, and power systems, and ensures designs comply with applicable codes and standards. The position offers significant project and task ownership, opportunities to mentor junior staff, and the chance to contribute to technically rigorous, sustainable, and innovative solutions within an integrated MEP and design consulting environment. Responsibilities Lead electrical design for diverse building projects across multiple delivery models, including design/bid/build, design assist, and full design. Develop complete contract drawings from schematics through construction documents, ensuring accuracy and constructability. Apply engineering principles to the design of electrical distribution, lighting, and power systems for building projects. Effectively communicate design options, tradeoffs, and recommendations to clients, project teams, and other stakeholders with varying technical backgrounds. Independently evaluate and apply engineering judgment, techniques, and procedures to guide projects from concept through construction completion. Apply thorough knowledge of building codes, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and electrical industry standards to all designs. Perform detailed engineering calculations and select appropriate equipment to meet project requirements and performance goals. Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, support design decisions, and prepare clear, concise site visit reports. Generate, edit, and maintain project specifications to align with design intent and project requirements. Attend meetings with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, and other project team members to coordinate design and resolve issues. Support construction administration by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and addressing field questions related to electrical design. Contribute strong problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve complex design and coordination challenges. Proactively enhance technical quality by staying current with emerging technologies, evolving building codes, and industry advancements. Collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment, working closely with mechanical, plumbing, lighting, sustainability, energy, and commissioning teams to produce integrated project documents. Manage project time efficiently, helping ensure timely delivery of design milestones and adherence to quality standards. Mentor junior staff by providing technical guidance, design reviews, and feedback on project documentation. Provide quality control for drawings, models, and specifications to maintain consistency and reduce errors. Coordinate with electric utilities, including preparing and submitting service applications and working with utility representatives to secure appropriate service arrangements. Design infrastructure for Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, including load analysis, equipment selection, and coordination with utilities and other disciplines. Contribute to project management activities as needed, such as task planning, schedule coordination, and progress tracking. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field, or equivalent work experience. Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience within the building construction industry; at least 8 years of building design electrical experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering and electrical design for building systems. Proficiency with Revit, including modeling electrical systems and compiling construction documents within Revit. Proficiency with Bluebeam for drawing review and markup. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products for documentation, communication, and analysis. Experience applying the National Electrical Code (NEC) in building design. Strong ability to apply engineering principles to electrical distribution, lighting, and power systems. Ability to independently manage design tasks from concept through construction documentation and support. Strong communication skills to present and discuss design options with diverse stakeholders. Ability to perform engineering calculations and select appropriate electrical equipment. Ability to perform site visits and prepare clear, detailed reports. Capability to generate and edit project specifications. Willingness and ability to work in person for meetings and site visits in alignment with a flexible hybrid office policy. Must know and effectively use Revit for electrical design and documentation. Must hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license. Additional Skills & Qualifications PE license preferred in the basic qualifications and required in the skill details, indicating strong professional credentialing. LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) credential preferred, reflecting a focus on sustainable design. Expert knowledge of Washington State and Seattle codes and sustainable design practices. Experience with electric utility coordination, including preparing and submitting service applications; experience with SCL and PSE strongly preferred. Experience with the design of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. Project management experience, including planning tasks, coordinating schedules, and supporting project delivery. Demonstrated ability to stay updated with emerging technologies, evolving building codes, and industry advancements. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams, including MEP engineering, lighting design, sustainability and energy consulting, and commissioning. Proactive, curious mindset with a desire to take ownership of projects and tasks beyond a narrow job description. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills applied to complex building systems. Ability to mentor junior staff and provide quality control on project documentation. Work Environment The role operates within a multidisciplinary MEP engineering and design consulting environment that emphasizes technical excellence, sustainability, and thoughtful innovation. The position follows a flexible hybrid office policy, combining remote work with in-person availability for office collaboration, client meetings, and site visits. You will work closely with teams specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting design, sustainability and energy consulting, and commissioning to deliver integrated, high-quality project documents.
