Job Description

Electrical Design EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Electrical Design Engineer to develop safe, code-compliant electrical systems for commercial and institutional building projects. The role is responsible for electrical system design, load calculations, coordination with HVAC and fire protection disciplines, producing CADD drawings, and ensuring projects meet applicable codes and client requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with practical design experience and effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop electrical design concepts and detailed construction documents for power distribution, lighting, emergency power, grounding, and fire alarm systems.

Perform electrical load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, voltage drop analysis, and select equipment and conductor sizes to meet performance and code requirements.

Prepare and edit CADD/Revit drawings, schematics, single-line diagrams, and panel schedules to convey design intent and construction requirements.

Coordinate designs with HVAC, mechanical, structural, and fire protection disciplines to resolve conflicts, ensure code compliance, and support integrated building systems.

Apply and interpret electrical and building codes (NEC, NFPA, local codes) to ensure compliant designs and permit-ready documentation.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, contractors, and clients to define scope, provide cost-effective solutions, and support construction administration.

Support specification development, equipment selection, procurement, and shop drawing review during design and construction phases.

Participate in site visits, field verification, and commission testing to validate installations and resolve issues during construction.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT with plan to obtain PE preferred.3+ years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, or industrial buildings, including lighting, power, and fire alarm systems.

Proficiency with CADD and Building Information Modeling tools such as AutoCAD and Revit; experience producing construction documents and single-line diagrams.

Strong knowledge of electrical theory, load calculations, short-circuit and coordination studies, voltage drop analysis, and equipment sizing.

Familiarity with fire protection systems, fire alarm design principles, and relevant codes (NFPA, IBC, NEC) and local authority having jurisdiction requirements.

Experience coordinating with HVAC and mechanical systems, and an understanding of how electrical and mechanical systems interact.

Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and commitment to producing accurate, code-compliant designs.
