BHP Engineering & Construction is an engineering consulting firm serving refinery and petrochemical clients across the Texas Gulf Coast. Our work spans I&E design, civil/drainage engineering, surveying, and construction QA/QC for major operators in the region. We are a small, project-driven team where engineers work directly with clients and see their designs through to field execution.
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced I&E Engineer to design and deliver instrumentation and electrical systems for refinery and petrochemical projects. The successful candidate will produce engineering deliverables, support field execution, and work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams to meet project specifications, schedules, and applicable codes. Responsibilities Design and engineer instrumentation and electrical systems for process units, including power distribution, controls, and instrumentation.
Produce and review engineering deliverables:
instrument specifications, loop diagrams, location plans, cable and conduit schedules, panel layouts, and electrical one-lines. Develop and mark up P&IDs in coordination with process and mechanical disciplines. Perform calculations for electrical loads, cable sizing, voltage drop, and area classification (hazardous area / NEC Class/Division). Support instrument and control system selection, including PLC/DCS integration. Provide engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup. Participate in design reviews, HAZOP, and constructability reviews. Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, ISA, IEEE, API) and client specifications. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 5+ years of I&E engineering experience in petrochemical, refinery, or oil & gas. Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical and/or SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and Bentley products. Working knowledge of NEC, ISA, IEEE, and API standards. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication and ability to coordinate across disciplines and with clients. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities. Ability to obtain a TWIC card and pass client background and drug screening for plant access. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer in Training (EIT) license in Texas. Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation. Experience with power distribution systems and motor controls. Prior work at Gulf Coast refinery or petrochemical facilities.
Pay:
$45.00 - $75.00 per hour
