Safran Electronics & Defense Profile:
We're looking for a skilled and driven Electrical Engineer to join the IDD Aerospace engineering team, part of Safran Electronics and Defense Avionics, USA. In this role, you'll play a key part in designing and certifying avionics equipment for flight decks on commercial, business, and military aircraft. We need someone with experience working to aviation standards like DO-254, DO-178, and DO-160 to help ensure our products meet the highest safety and reliability standards. 1. Job Summary The Electrical Engineer is a key member of a cross-disciplinary team driving the design, development and execution of Human Machine Interface (HMI) products for cockpit solutions on next generation military and commercial aircraft. The Electrical Engineer works on the development of new products, and the improvement and sustainment of products. Engineering duties will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial design and requirements capture through manufacture and field support. 2. Essential Job Functions Product design includes Electrical Requirements Capture, Digital Design, Analog Design, Schematic Capture, PCB layout, Technical Reviews, Requirements Verification, FAA/EASA Certification. Perform operational, maintenance, or testing procedures for electronic products, components, equipment or systems. Perform root cause investigations on new development and fielded products. Produce engineering estimates for individual tasks up to complete electronic designs. Review customer specifications and statement of work to ensure overall technical compliance of products to requirements and/or note exceptions. Ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects to achieve the company's strategic and financial goals. Design new products and modify existing products to support customer, manufacturing, regulatory, industry standard, and market requirements. Create and review detailed technical justification demonstrating that the designs are reliable and safe within a particular operating environment. Provide support and relevant documentation to the other engineering teams (such as software, mechanical, and materials) to develop and modify new and existing products. Perform product troubleshooting and lab testing. Coordinate and support prototype manufacturing of new designs. Prepare, review, and approve documentation, test procedures, etc. to define and validate designed products. Participate in and lead multi-discipline design reviews both internally with peers and externally with customers. Evaluate design changes for impact to product design, cost, and schedule. Provide technical support, interact and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, manufacturing, quality, testing, program management, suppliers and customers to resolve problems and implement solutions. Demonstrate an understanding of internal processes and methods and tools. Ensures work complies to company policies and processes. Support trade studies and proposals. Other duties may be assigned. 3. Electrical Engineer (Level 1) Will perform the above under the direction of a senior engineer. In addition to the above, they will develop their knowledge of product, technology, industry standards, processes, tools, method, workflow, and best practices for hardware development with a primary emphasis on electrical designs. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Understand and utilize the appropriate processes and tools during product development, resulting in increased product quality and improving customer satisfaction. Participate in cross-functional team efforts in the integration, pre-qualification and qualification for products and sub-systems. Track and report personal status relating to technical effort of their tasks. Demonstrate knowledge of printed circuit board schematic and layout processes, design to cost, component selection, engineering procurement, engineering lab processes, hardware qualification processes, and change management. 4.
Required Competencies Education/Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program, or a related field. Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience as an Electrical Engineer, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be a self-directed individual requiring minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to think critically, identify root cause and propose effective solutions. Understands and is proficient with project management, engineering documentation requirements, and engineering analysis tools. Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, policies, and compliance requirements. Knowledge or experience in aerospace, electrical, or mechanical systems. Ability to work closely with internal and external customers at engineering and management levels with minimum supervision. Experience presenting technical plans or speaking on technical topics to project teams, customers or other groups as required. Adhere to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture. Experience with Aerospace Safety Critical Hardware Design including DO-254 and DO-160 best practices. Ability to perform circuit analysis (ability to understand circuit function from schematic).
Detailed knowledge of the following:
Embedded software and micro-processors ASICS and FPGA's Common serial and parallel communications Signal conditioning circuitry Cables and Connectors AC and DC power supplies Environmental and EMI considerations Motor control Experience working with tools such as requirements traceability, test planning, automated test execution and configuration management. Factory support experience is a plus. Familiarity with IPC design standards for electrical interconnection & printed circuits. Familiar with Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP) is a plus but not required. Travel Specificity Potential travel between Redmond, WA and other locations up to 25%. 6. Physical Demands While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position and occasionally move about the office and laboratory. Constantly operates and uses a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copier/printer and laboratory machinery. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information. The ability to observe, identify and assess details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds across the office for various needs. 7. Work Environment The work environment is split between office, laboratory, and factory work, with most work being performed in the office. The noise level in the office and laboratory is typically quiet while the noise level in the factory can occasionally require hearing protection. 8. Experience in relevant Business sector Experience within the aerospace industry a plus but not required Accountability This position is under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by Title 22 of Code of Federal Regulations (C.F.R.) §120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
