OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Intermediate Controls & Automation Engineer to join our growing Robotics & Automation Division in Sumner, WA. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering and Robotics, you will be responsible for designing, programming, and improving industrial automation systems across our production lines, including robotic cells and control system architecture. You will deliver complete automation solutions from concept through production deployment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Core Responsibilities:
Design and deliver small-to-mid scale automation projects from concept through commissioning, including robotic cells, motion systems, and safety systems Program PLCs and HMIs (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley ControlLogix & FactoryTalk, CODESYS, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or similar) Program and integrate industrial and collaborative robots (Universal Robots, FANUC, ABB, or similar), including EOAT and fixture design Design control panels to UL508A — schematics, component selection, VFD/servo integration, and power distribution Select, specify, and install field devices — sensors, instrumentation, actuators, pneumatics, motor control, and I/O hardware Configure industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, EtherCAT) Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, software, and mechanical system faults, performing root cause analysis to minimize production downtime Author design documentation, test plans, and SOPs; guide technicians during build, test, and commissioning Other duties as assigned.
About You:
Hands-on and practical — equally comfortable at a workstation writing control logic and on the production floor commissioning hardware Comfortable taking responsibility for automation systems end-to-end with limited supervision in a production environment A structured thinker who can decompose a complex problem, work through it methodically, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders Thrives in small, cross-functional teams where work has direct, visible impact on production systems rather than layered departmental queues Steady under pressure — when a line goes down, you are the kind of person who moves quickly, thinks clearly, and keeps production and maintenance teams informed throughout Genuinely curious about how things work and motivated to keep improving them — you see a running system as a starting point, not a finish line
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated hands-on experience 4+ years of hands-on experience in industrial controls and automation Strong experience with PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley ControlLogix & FactoryTalk, CODESYS, Beckhoff TwinCAT, or similar) Experience with industrial or collaborative robots (Universal Robots, FANUC, ABB, or similar) Proficient in electrical schematics and control panel design (UL508A), including VFDs, servos, safety relays, power supplies, and circuit protection Working knowledge of
NEC/NFPA
70 and functional safety standards CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar) for mechanical/electrical design support Strong systematic troubleshooting across electrical, software, and mechanical systems, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in a production environment Strong technical writing skills for documentation, procedures, and manuals Experience with industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, Profinet, EtherCAT) and general network troubleshooting Experience with scripting or programming (Python, Bash, or similar) is an asset Familiarity with Linux environments Exposure to modern development tools (Git, Docker, CI/CD) is a plus Ability to support production needs, including occasional extended hours or weekends Food & beverage manufacturing experience or ISA certifications (CAP, CCST) are a plus Comfortable working in a fast-paced food production environment; this role involves physical activity including standing for extended periods, bending, lifting, and working in temperature-variable conditions We are a growing organization with delicious products that consumers love! Our business and our reputation are committed to high quality and exceptional customer service. We produce certified gluten-free products in facilities with SQF2 and BRC certifications. What started as a mission to produce delicious gluten-free baked goods for our own family is now a mission focused on making our delicious items available to everyone across the US and beyond. We offer a competitive salary with bonus potential and benefits that include health, vision, and dental insurance.
