About the RoleUnder limited supervision, the Electrical Engineer II is responsible for independently executing electrical design tasks and supporting projects through all phases of development in material handling environments. Building on foundational skills, this role includes panel design, safety circuit integration, and field troubleshooting while supporting system standardization and mentoring entry-level engineers. This role requires up to 25% travel. Join our automation team based in Atlanta, GA or Milwaukee, WI. Essential Duties and Responsibilities This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time. System Architecture & Standardization Create and revise electrical schematics, I/O lists, and BOMs for standard automation systems. Apply standard panel layout practices and support efforts to improve internal design libraries. Ensure compliance with UL508A, NEC, and IEC standards in all deliverables. Technical Leadership & Execution Design motor starter circuits, control panels, and interface wiring for low-voltage equipment. Perform power calculations, wire sizing, and overcurrent protection selection. Support onsite commissioning and provide hands-on troubleshooting. Maintain and update redlines and as-builts based on field conditions. Team Development & Mentorship Review and validate deliverables from Electrical Engineer I roles. Share lessons learned and provide coaching to junior team members. Contribute to documentation and standard process updates for internal training use. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with Controls Engineers to align wiring practices and I/O requirements. Interface with Project Managers for scheduling, procurement support, and installation oversight. Coordinate with panel shops and installers to resolve field discrepancies. Strategic Growth & Innovation Recommend changes to improve system reliability, manufacturability, or cost-effectiveness. Participate in early-stage design reviews and suggest alternative component selections. Stay informed on updates in safety compliance and power distribution technologies. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. 24 years of experience in industrial electrical design, preferably in automation or material handling. Other Key Skills Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical (or similar software). Working knowledge of UL, NEC, and IEC electrical code requirements. Ability to read and produce schematics, layout drawings, and panel documentation. Familiarity with VFDs, power supplies, terminal blocks, and industrial sensors.
