Job Description

Controls EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to design, develop, and integrate control systems for industrial automation and robotics projects. The role focuses on PLC, HMI, motion control, and control panel design to deliver reliable, safe, and maintainable manufacturing and robotic systems. The ideal candidate will collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software teams to produce schematics, panel layouts, and system integration documentation while ensuring compliance with UL and NFPA standards.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, program, and commission PLC and HMI systems for industrial automation and robotic applications (AllenBradley, Siemens, or equivalent).Develop and tune motion control sequences using motion controllers, servos, and VFDs to achieve accurate positioning and path control.

Produce electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or similar tools; oversee control panel fabrication and testing.

Integrate sensors, encoders, pneumatic components, and other I/O devices into control architectures to meet functional and safety requirements.

Perform system-level integration and testing of robotics, conveyors, and machinery; troubleshoot hardware and software issues during commissioning.

Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM), control system documentation, and asbuilt drawings; develop operator manuals and maintenance procedures.

Ensure designs meet applicable UL, NFPA, and industrial safety standards; implement electrical and control safety interlocks and estop schemes.

Collaborate with crossfunctional teams (mechanical, electrical, systems engineering, production) to define requirements, deliverables, and project schedules.

Support continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing system performance, implementing upgrades, and standardizing control solutions.

Train technicians and customers on system operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance procedures.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of handson experience designing, programming, and commissioning industrial control systems and robotics integration.

Proven experience with PLC programming and HMI development (e.g., Rockwell/AllenBradley, Siemens, Schneider).Handson knowledge of motion controllers, servo systems, VFDs, and motion tuning techniques.

Familiarity with sensor integration, I/O architecture, encoders, and pneumatic control systems.

Proficient in AutoCAD or similar CAD tools for electrical schematics and panel layout design.

Experience developing control panels, wiring schematics, and working with UL and NFPA standards and certifications.

Strong troubleshooting skills across electrical, control, and mechanical subsystems during commissioning and support.

Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams and interact with customers.
Preferred:
experience with robotics integration, industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet), PLCtorobot communication, and knowledge of control system cybersecurity best practices.
