Job Description
Overview We are seeking a full-time Senior Process Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex tasks related to manufacturing of several new products in development. The Process Development Team (PDT) is responsible for managing the implementation and on-going support of smart factory and other automated solutions within Garmin's global operations group. These solutions are designed to increase operational efficiencies, drive higher standards of quality and ensure our processes exceed the expectations of our customers. Essential Functions Research and development of new, cutting-edge automation concepts Apply knowledge of production and operations processes to overall design Test, validate and integrate equipment components into production environments Model moderately complex parts and assemblies in 3D CAD software Interact with product design engineers to incorporate Design for Manufacturability principles Design and develop basic software applications Independently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems Interact with automation design team to ensure mechanical and electrical feasibility Interface with outside teams and individuals to ensure all solutions comply with product design specifications Project manage and collaborate with fellow project stakeholders Conduct training for equipment operators and maintenance technicians Troubleshoot, support and continuously improve existing automated solutions Serve in a technical leadership capacity responsible for project planning and makes substantial contributions to determining feasibility of project goals/objectives for multiple new products in development Attend ECO Meetings as needed and serve as a member of the Material Review Board Provide manufacturing cost estimates to engineering for PDP Recognize need for new technology in the factory and begin research into addition of potential technology improvements Analyze data to predict possible quality trends and implement mitigation Evaluate equipment for new processes and design custom equipment as necessary for Garmin specific applications Participate in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product and process development plans and concept documents including operational costs Make substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility Mentor and provide guidance to less experienced Process Engineers (1 & 2) Contribute to advanced technical research on new processes and technologies Independently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems Demonstrate good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking Offer many suggestions to improves processes/author new procedures as appropriate Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and participate in recruiting activities as assigned Ability to travel domestically and internationally on occasion Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards Basic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Demonstrates proficiency and full understanding of engineering and operations principles and processes Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment Desired Qualifications Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5) Previous experience with Electrical panel design, PLC and HMI programming, controls and vision systems, and VB/VB.net/C# programming Excellent problem-solving ability Experience using 2D and 3D CAD design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks) Design experience with fixturing, pneumatics, sensors and safety controls Working knowledge of modern machining and rapid prototyping capabilities Experience programming industrial and/or collaborative robots End effecter design experience in 3D modeling software Experience integrating controls and I/O into robot controller Collaboration experience with other design groups and product owners to ensure manufacturability using automation Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
