Job Description

PLC Controls Engineer (Contract) -
Siemens Location:
Baltimore, MD (Onsite)
Contract Duration:
10-12 weeks
Start:
ASAP Overview We are seeking an experienced PLC Controls Engineer to support a complex, multi-robot automation project at a customer site in the Baltimore area. This is a short-term, high-impact contract role focused on Siemens PLC development, system integration, and safety coordination for a large robotic cell. The system is already installed and operational, but requires additional PLC expertise to complete integration, safety logic, and remaining functionality. This role is ideal for a hands-on PLC engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments and enjoys troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities Support PLC development and integration for a large, multi-robot automation cell (8+ robots with conveyors) Complete remaining PLC logic related to: Safety systems and safety state management Coordinated start/stop of the full robotic cell Light curtains and safety device integration with multiple robotic arms Conveyor coordination and interlocks Variable handling for multiple product (can) sizes Tie together multiple robotic cells into a coordinated system Troubleshoot unexpected integration challenges in a live customer environment Work closely with an experienced onsite controls engineer Provide onsite support during system commissioning and refinement Help accelerate project timelines by removing PLC-related bottlenecks

Robotics:
Integrated robotic arms (internal software and hardware stack) Required Qualifications Strong hands-on experience with Siemens PLCs Proven background in industrial automation and controls engineering Experience integrating safety systems , light curtains, and safety logic Ability to work onsite and hands-on with physical automation systems Comfortable stepping into partially documented systems and moving projects forward Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to collaborate effectively with robotics, mechanical, and software teams Nice-to-Have Qualifications Experience with robotic cell integration and multi-robot coordination Conveyor system integration experience background in palletizing, depalletizing, or machine tending applications Prior commissioning or startup support experience Why This Role Immediate impact on a high-visibility automation project Work on advanced, internally developed robotics and automation technology Opportunity for contract extension or longer-term engagement based on project needs Collaborative environment with direct access to engineering decision-makers Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Linthicum Heights, MD. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
