Job Description

Epitec is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our automotive client's team in Detroit, MI. As a Controls Engineer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring production lines stay up and running by quickly diagnosing and fixing controls and automation issues. This is a 2-year W2 contract with potential for conversion/extension This is an onsite position in Detroit, MI This position offers $61.25/hour, 10 days PTO, medical/retirement contributions (if desired)
Top Responsibilities:
Support production lines by troubleshooting and modifying PLC/controls logic (Siemens-focused) to keep equipment running Program and maintain PLC, CNC, and HMI systems for automated manufacturing equipment Design and implement control systems for new and existing equipment and processes Diagnose and resolve equipment downtime issues, including emergency support for unplanned stoppages Work cross-functionally with mechanical, electrical, and maintenance teams to fix complex failures Integrate sensors, actuators, and other devices into automated systems Test, debug, and validate control systems to ensure proper performance and throughput Drive continuous improvement projects tied to KPIs (efficiency, uptime, quality) Maintain documentation (logic, wiring diagrams, system layouts) and ensure safety compliance
Top Qualifications:
Strong PLC programming experience (Siemens preferred; Allen Bradley acceptable) Hands-on experience with HMI systems and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) Solid understanding of electrical schematics, instrumentation, and control systems Experience troubleshooting and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment Ability to support robot logic and willingness to adjust Kuka robot positions as needed Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment Comfortable supporting off-shift operations (midnight shift) and responding to urgent issues Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field 5+ years of controls/automation experience in a manufacturing environment Familiarity with CAD tools and standard PC/software tools is a plus #LI-RH1 #INDOEM
