Job Description

Distribution Designer Overview In this role, you will contribute to the design and development of electric distribution projects, with a focus on overhead and underground systems, while working alongside integrated engineering, design and project teams. This position is ideal for someone who values collaboration, quality and dependable project delivery in support of utility clients and critical infrastructure. This role supports electric utility infrastructure projects for a well-established, employee-owned engineering and construction firm known for delivering complex, high-quality solutions. Key Responsibilities Develop design packages for electric distribution projects, including overhead and underground systems. Prepare design drawings, layouts and supporting documentation for new construction, system improvements, relocations and upgrades. Support routing, equipment selection, constructability reviews and design coordination based on project requirements and utility standards. Interpret and apply applicable client standards, design criteria, codes and safety requirements. Coordinate with engineers, designers, project managers and field personnel to support accurate and timely project execution. Revise drawings and incorporate markups, field feedback and design changes throughout the project lifecycle. Organize and maintain project files, drawings and related documentation in a clear and structured manner. Support the delivery of high-quality work products aligned with scope, schedule and budget. Required Qualifications Experience supporting electric distribution design, including overhead and/or underground utility systems. Working knowledge of utility design standards, construction practices and field considerations. Proficiency in relevant design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS or related utility design software. Ability to read and interpret design drawings, maps, specifications and utility records. Strong attention to detail with solid organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work effectively in a multidiscipline team environment and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Experience with both overhead and underground distribution design. Prior experience supporting utility clients and electric infrastructure projects. Familiarity with permitting, joint use coordination, field verification or construction support. Associate degree, technical training or equivalent relevant experience in drafting, design or a related field. Work Environment This role works closely with project managers, engineers, designers and field teams in a collaborative environment focused on safe, high-quality delivery for utility infrastructure projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
