Reno, NV (onsite) Job Summary We are seeking a Design Technician to support electric and/or gas utility projects related to new construction, capital maintenance, and system improvement initiatives. This role is responsible for preparing utility designs, cost estimates, and customer contracts while serving as a key point of contact throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess AutoCAD experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to coordinate with internal teams, customers, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Key Responsibilities Prepare design packages for electric and/or gas utility new service installations, system improvements, and expansion projects. Develop preliminary and final cost estimates for customer and utility-funded projects. Create and maintain design drawings using AutoCAD and other design tools. Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, developers, contractors, engineering firms, municipalities, and other stakeholders. Guide customers through the utility new business process from project initiation through completion. Prepare, review, and present customer contracts and financial agreements. Ensure designs comply with company standards, tariffs, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Coordinate project activities with field operations, engineering, construction, and inspection personnel. Conduct or participate in pre-construction meetings with inspectors, foremen, project managers, and customers. Track project schedules, documentation, and deliverables to ensure timely completion. Support service restoration and emergency response activities as needed, including participation in an on-call rotation when required. Maintain a high level of customer service and focus on continuous process improvement. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of related experience in utility design, engineering support, drafting, construction, or a related field. Proficiency with AutoCAD. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word. Experience in electric and/or gas utility design. Knowledge of utility distribution systems, construction practices, and design standards. Familiarity with utility tariffs, permitting processes, and regulatory requirements. Experience working with utility customers, developers, contractors, or municipalities. Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering Technology, Drafting, CAD, or a related field.
