Job Description

PLC Controls EngineerPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced PLC Controls Engineer to design, program, commission, and support industrial control systems that drive our manufacturing and automation projects. The role focuses on developing robust PLC and HMI solutions (primarily Allen-Bradley and Wonderware/InTouch), producing control documentation and drawings, leading factory acceptance and site commissioning, and collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and production teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and implement PLC control systems and ladder/function block logic for new and retrofit automation projects.

Program, test, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs using RSLogix/Studio 5000 and other vendor tools; perform AB PLC programming to meet project requirements.

Design, configure, and maintain HMI applications using Wonderware InTouch/Wonderware and other HMI platforms to provide clear operator interfaces and alarms.

Create and maintain control system documentation including I/O lists, control narratives, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts; produce electrical and control drawings using AutoCAD.Plan and execute Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT); lead on-site commissioning, start-up, and performance tuning.

Integrate drives, motor controls, and field devices; configure industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) and ensure reliable data exchange with supervisory systems.

Provide troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for control system issues; implement corrective actions and continuous improvement measures.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, electricians, and production staff to define requirements, schedules, and deliverables; support training for operators and maintenance personnel.

Ensure all control design and implementation meet safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company quality procedures.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Automation, or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of hands-on experience programming and commissioning PLC-based control systems, preferably in a manufacturing or process environment.

Proven proficiency with Allen-Bradley PLCs and AB PLC programming (RSLogix/Studio 5000).Experience developing HMIs with Wonderware and Wonderware InTouch, creating intuitive screens, alarms, and trends.

Proficient in AutoCAD for generating and updating control and electrical drawings.

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) and integration with SCADA systems.

Experience with drives (VFDs), motor controls, and field instrumentation integration.

Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as required. Certifications in PLC programming, automation, or safety systems are a plus.
