This is a programming-first role:
PLC logic and HMI development are the core of the job. You'll turn control narratives and drawings into working, field-proven control systems across municipal water/wastewater, industrial, and mining projects, working in a relaxed office environment with a strong team atmosphere. We're looking for 3-8 years of progressively responsible PLC/HMI programming experience. We also welcome strong programmers coming from manufacturing, OEM, packaging, or plant-automation backgrounds who are ready to grow into process-oriented integration — CEI has a defined development path to bridge machine control into process and SCADA-heavy work. Duties Review control system drawings and job specifications for assigned projects. Develop, configure, and troubleshoot PLC programs in accordance with control narratives and sequences of operation. Develop and troubleshoot HMI/OIT programs including trending, diagnostic data, management information, and mimic diagrams. Troubleshoot PLCs at the scan level — input scan, logic execution, and output scan. Coordinate with designers on control panel layout, I/O assignments, and instrument selection. Assist project managers in the selection and acquisition of materials and equipment required for jobs. Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of the control system. Perform field testing, startup, loop checks, and commissioning of the control system. Create or review O&M manuals for PLCs and related control system components. Coordinate programming deliverables with QA/QC to ensure quality. Mentor junior programmers and review basic work products as experience grows. Must be willing to travel as necessary depending on project requirements. Requirements 3-8 years of progressively responsible experience programming PLC and HMI systems. Hands-on programming with Rockwell/Allen-Bradley (RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000); experience with Siemens (TIA Portal), Modicon, or similar platforms is a plus. HMI/OIT development experience (FactoryTalk View ME/SE or comparable), including trending, alarming, diagnostics, and mimic screens. Ability to read and interpret control system drawings, P&IDs, I/O lists, and control narratives / sequences of operation. Working knowledge of industrial instrumentation, I/O schemes, and discrete/analog control. Experience with industrial applications such as water/wastewater and mining is preferred. BSEE, BSEET, Mechatronics, Controls, or a related degree preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered. Strong troubleshooting mindset and a high level of attention to detail. Very high energy level and a team-first attitude, consistent with a business that is growing quickly.
