Come work with us in Malloy's UL508A and 698A panel Shop. We build custom control panels and custom motor control centers for integrators, EPCs, and OEMs. Ideal candidates will have secondary schooling from a technical school or university in an electrical field. Role Summary The UL508A Panel Designer is responsible for the design, layout, and documentation of industrial electrical control panels and related assemblies manufactured within Malloy Electric's UL508A and UL698A Panel Shop. This role works closely with integrators, EPCs, OEMs, industrial end users, and Malloy's internal panel shop team to develop safe, efficient, and buildable electrical control solutions. The ideal candidate combines practical electrical knowledge with technical drafting and documentation skills to create complete panel packages from concept through manufacturing and field installation. Candidates may come from backgrounds such as electricians, panel builders, controls technicians, or technical electrical programs. Key Responsibilities Panel Design & Documentation Design industrial control panels, motor control systems, and related assemblies based on project requirements and customer specifications. Develop complete project drawing packages including: Electrical schematics Panel layouts Wiring diagrams One-line diagrams Shop manufacturing and field wiring drawings Bills of Materials (BOMs) Specify electrical and control components including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, starters, relays, breakers, terminals, and enclosures. Review project documentation for technical accuracy, scope, and compliance. Support design revisions during fabrication and project execution. Collaboration & Technical Support Work closely with panel shop technicians, electricians, sales, project teams, and customers to ensure successful project execution. Provide technical guidance related to panel construction, component selection, and system integration. Assist with troubleshooting, startup, and commissioning support as needed. Standards & Compliance Design panels in accordance with applicable codes and standards including UL508A, UL698A, TUV, NEC, and NFPA requirements. Ensure proper wire routing, grounding, labeling, component spacing, and safe design practices. Support standardization and continuous improvement within the panel shop. Qualifications Required / Ideal Background Degree, diploma, technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience in electrical technology, controls, or automation. Practical experience in industrial electrical systems, control panels, or automation is strongly preferred. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and control drawings. Strong understanding of three-phase power systems, industrial controls, and electrical theory . Familiarity with UL standards and industrial electrical codes. Strong troubleshooting, organization, and attention to detail. Design Software Experience Malloy Electric utilizes EPLAN for electrical design. Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, DraftSight, or similar design software is beneficial. Work Environment Primarily office/design-based with regular interaction in the panel shop. Occasional support during fabrication, testing, startup, or commissioning. Ability to perform under deadlines and manage multiple project priorities.
