Job Description

Electrical Designer Johnson City, TN Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrical Designer opportunity in Johnson City, TN. Position Overview The Electrical Designer will support a large-scale industrial construction project by developing detailed electrical design drawings and documentation for power distribution and control systems. This role requires experience in heavy industrial environments and strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards. Key Responsibilities Develop detailed electrical design drawings including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and layouts. Design power distribution systems, MCCs, panelboards, and control systems. Support control system design, including instrumentation, PLC panels, and field device integration. Perform load calculations, conduit and cable sizing, and equipment selection. Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and project-specific requirements). Coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural, and process engineering teams to ensure integrated design solutions. Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and client meetings. Support field activities including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and assisting with installation issues. Maintain accurate documentation and revision control throughout the project lifecycle. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 5+ years of electrical design experience in a heavy industrial setting. Experience in designing power distribution and industrial control systems. Strong understanding of applicable industry standards and electrical codes (NEC, NFPA, IEEE, etc.). Proficiency in electrical design and drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit). Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and vendor documentation. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree in Drafting/Design, Electronic Systems Technology, or a related technical discipline. Experience working on large-scale industrial construction or EPC projects. Familiarity with 3D modeling environments and BIM coordination. Knowledge of medium-voltage systems and industrial automation systems. Experience supporting field construction or commissioning activities.
