Job Description

Job Overview The PLC Programmer is responsible for developing, implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining programmable logic controller (PLC) programs used in industrial automation and control systems. This position supports system design, integration, commissioning, and ongoing maintenance of automation equipment and control systems. The PLC Programmer works closely with automation technicians, electricians, engineers, and operations personnel to ensure automation systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and company standards. Duties Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs for industrial automation systems. Configure and support Human Machine Interface (HMI) and SCADA systems. Perform system testing, debugging, and commissioning of control systems. Interpret and implement control narratives, P&IDs, loop diagrams, and electrical drawings. Support installation and startup of automation systems and field instrumentation. Diagnose and resolve control system faults and automation system failures. Work with automation technicians and electricians to integrate field devices, instrumentation, and control panels. Configure PLC hardware, communication networks, and input/output modules. Maintain documentation related to PLC programs, system changes, and control system configurations. Support system upgrades, improvements, and automation optimization efforts. Provide technical support during equipment startup, system commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Ensure all programming and automation work complies with applicable safety and operational standards. Assist with training field personnel on automation systems and operational procedures. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience working with industrial automation or control systems. Experience programming PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Idec, ABB, ROC800, or similar systems. Strong understanding of industrial control systems, instrumentation, and electrical components. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control narratives, electrical schematics, and loop diagrams. Experience troubleshooting PLC logic and automation system faults. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or similar networks. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or technical certification in automation, electrical technology, instrumentation, or a related field. Experience with HMI and SCADA systems such as FactoryTalk, Wonderware, Ignition, or similar platforms. Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or oil and gas environments. Experience supporting automation system commissioning and startup. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. H2S Awareness certification. First Aid / CPR certification. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and access equipment in industrial environments. Ability to work in field environments including construction sites and operating facilities. Ability to use computers and diagnostic equipment for extended periods. Willing do drive upwards of 5 hours per day. Work Environment This position may require work in industrial facilities, control rooms, construction sites, and oil and gas field environments. Employees may be exposed to loud noise, energized equipment, elevated work areas, and varying environmental conditions. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working in field environments in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Safety Responsibilities Follow all company Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures. Participate in job safety meetings and required safety training. Follow proper Lockout/Tagout procedures when working with electrical or automation equipment. Identify and report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions. Ensure automation systems are configured and operated in a manner that supports safe facility operations.
Pay:
$90.00 - $100.00 per hour
