Job Title:
Electrical Designer Job Description The Electrical Designer creates and modifies electrical and electronic schematics using AutoCAD to support turnkey power generation solutions. This role collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to develop accurate, complete designs that comply with applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Electrical Designer conducts quality reviews, maintains organized documentation, and supports installation and testing activities for power generation and industrial automation systems. Responsibilities Create and modify electrical and electronic schematics using AutoCAD to support turnkey power generation solutions. Partner with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to develop accurate, complete electrical schematics and technical documentation. Ensure all electrical designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements, including the National Electric Code (NEC) and other relevant standards. Conduct detailed quality reviews of schematics to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design requirements. Maintain organized, up-to-date documentation of all schematics, revisions, and related records. Continuously develop and refine technical skills, with a particular focus on AutoCAD Electrical and drafting best practices. Support the instrumentation and controls (I&C) team with lab equipment drawings, including layout and wiring details. Assist with installation and testing activities for power generation systems, medium and low voltage systems, and industrial automation equipment. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop detailed technical specifications and design packages for power systems and controls. Apply troubleshooting skills to support installation and testing, using tools such as oscilloscopes and other electronic test equipment when needed. Incorporate medium voltage, low voltage, and power generation system requirements into schematic designs, including controls and protection. Support switchgear and substation-related design activities when required. Travel to client sites as needed to support field activities, gather design information, and assist with installation or testing. Essential Skills 10+ years of drafting experience in electrical design or electrical schematics. 5+ years of experience with AutoCAD Electrical in 2D. 3+ years of experience with medium voltage, low voltage, and power generation systems and controls. 2+ years of experience with installation or troubleshooting of industrial automation equipment. Strong proficiency in electrical drafting and schematic development. Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and/or other relevant electrical codes and standards. Ability to troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, including use of oscilloscopes and related test equipment. Experience creating and interpreting power systems drawings for medium and low voltage applications. Ability to work effectively with engineers, project managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver accurate and complete designs. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality, well-documented schematics. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with 148 kV and 480 kV systems. Experience with switchgear and substation design is a plus. Experience with SolidWorks is beneficial. Electronics and electronic troubleshooting is advantageous. Familiarity with power generation environments and turnkey project support is preferred. Ability to adapt to evolving drafting best practices and design tools. Willingness to travel up to 30% to client sites, primarily within Texas. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Houston, TX.
