Position Overview We are seeking a VDC Layout Specialist to join our team. The VDC Layout Specialist plays a critical role within the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) department. This position is responsible for accurately and precisely shooting layout points in the field to guide the modeling team in developing detailed building information models (BIM). It ensures seamless integration between field operations and virtual design. Key Responsibilities Collaborates with the VDC Manager and project teams to understand layout requirements and objectives. Performs accurate stakeout using advanced survey equipment, including total stations, levels, and chalk lines. Executes layout calculations to generate accurate location data for BIM modeling. Utilizes Trimble Field Points and related software to read and edit layout files in the field. Translates blueprints into actionable layout tasks with attention to precision and constructability. Communicates regularly with VDC staff and field personnel to provide layout updates and resolve issues. Maintains construction documents and ensures accuracy of layout records. Safeguards and maintains all layout tools, equipment, and work vehicle inventory. Coordinates with field teams, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to ensure alignment. Contributes to process improvements and best practices within the VDC layout workflow.
Qualifications Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of experience in surveying, layout, or related field, with emphasis on electrical construction.
Preferred:
Proficiency in Trimble software and BIM coordination tools. Demonstrated ability to mentor junior layout personnel. Strong mathematical, communication, and analytical skills. OR an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience that results in the successful performance of the job. Additional education may substitute for required experience on one-for-one year basis or vice versa. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of surveying principles, electrical construction, and BIM workflows. Knowledge of Trimble Field Points, total stations, and layout file management. Skill in advanced layout calculations and interpreting technical documentation. Skill in using layout tools and construction technology efficiently. Ability to solve field layout issues and proactively communicate with stakeholders. Ability to lead by example and assist with training and mentoring layout team members. Ability to work independently in field conditions while ensuring quality and safety compliance. Work Environment Medium work environment. Indoor and outdoor work with exposure to uncomfortable and hazardous physical, ergonomic, and/or emotional environment. Work requires lifting up to 50 pounds and wearing protective equipment; exposure to environmental conditions, weather, climbing, crawling, lying, and working under pressure.
