Job Description

Who We Are NPL Construction is seeking motivated college seniors and recent graduates to join our team as a CAD/Drafting Intern. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to launch their career in utility construction and drafting by gaining hands-on, real-world experience in a fast-paced, professional environment. As part of Centuri Group, NPL Construction contributes to a leading utility infrastructure enterprise operating across the U.S. and Canada—safely delivering gas, electric, and essential utility services to communities. This position is office-based, 5 days per week, and will support our drafting and operations teams in producing accurate as-built drawings and project documentation. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals, gaining exposure to industry standards, utility design practices, and drafting tools. High-performing interns may be considered for a full-time opportunity with NPL Construction upon completion of the internship, based on performance, business need, and overall alignment.

What You'll Do Assist in converting hand-marked field drawings and annotated PDFs into clean, accurate AutoCAD 2D as-built plans under supervision Support the interpretation of civil and utility plan drawings, including dimension callouts and layout details Apply standard utility symbols and drafting conventions using provided legends and reference materials Input and maintain detailed drawing attributes such as pipe size, material, pressure class, and installation details Work with field notes including coordinates, fittings, and gas system designations to ensure accuracy in final drawings Collaborate with operations and field teams to clarify drawing details and ensure alignment with project requirements Learn and apply gas utility drafting standards, safety considerations, and documentation practices Maintain organized digital files and support documentation workflows What You'll Have Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Engineering, Drafting, Construction Management, or a related field Basic familiarity with AutoCAD (2D drafting) Exposure to reading civil or utility plan drawings is preferred, but not required Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and drafting work Ability to follow direction and learn quickly in a structured environment Comfort working with annotated PDFs, field notes, and technical documentation Interest in utility construction, infrastructure, or civil design Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to grow within the organization What You'll Get Hands-on, real-world experience with a leading utility construction company Direct exposure to field operations, drafting standards, and infrastructure projects Mentorship and training from experienced professionals in the industry Opportunity to build foundational skills in CAD drafting within a utility environment A pathway to a full-time career with NPL Construction, including eligibility for full-time benefits upon hire, based on performance and business needs Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a typical indoor office environment, Monday through Friday Position is in-office 5 days per week with a structured schedule Flexibility to adjust work hours or stay late when necessary based on project needs, with limited notice Regular use of a computer and drafting software; must be able to read technical documents and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Mobility required within office settings, with occasional exposure to warehouse or construction site environments for project familiarity Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials up to 20 pounds Legal Stuff Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens Provide valid US work authorization documents for E-Verify Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results Our Commitment to Opportunity This job description is subject to change at any time.
