Opens a new window. Power Electronics Engineer sought by TAE Power Solutions, LLC inFoothill Ranch, CA Duties:
Design and develop hardware and firmware used for e-mobility and stationary applications, including the e-powertrain and Energy Storage Systems, for electric vehicle drivetrains and stationary energy storage applications. Design and develop prototypes, models, control algorithms, and testing processes for power electronic products including traction inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC and other power converters (battery and supercapacitor based). Determine development requirements for power electronics converters and systems. Develop firmware and embedded software for the power electronic converters and systems, select and design circuit board layouts and components, as well as design and develop PV converters for microgrids. Lead lab and in-vehicle testing of the power electronic systems, address underlying issues, and create technical solutions throughout production from specification to design, prototyping, and manufacturing. Optimize firmware builds and test processes, then apply them to hardware and simulated environments. Contribute to vehicle-level integrations including thermal, thermal and high voltage electrical interfaces. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of prototypes.Requirements:
Master's degree, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, or related field plus two (2) years of Power Engineering, Applications Engineering, or related experience: designing, developing, and analyzing the manufacturability of power converters; participating in all development stages of high-voltage power electronics design, from concept to production; designing and developing control systems to meet performance and regulation requirements; selecting and proposing optimal power converter topology to meet technical specifications; simulating and analyzing power converter systems; working with modular multi-level high power conversion systems, including the utilization of control and modulation methods; creating models, simulations, and analysis tools to solve engineering problems; utilizing various methods for data acquisition and signal processing for control, diagnosis, and system monitoring; documenting and presenting technical requirements, specifications, and design reports; and utilizing tools and technologies such as MATLAB/Simulink, PLECs, PSIM, CAD/SolidWorks, Altium, LabView, oscilloscope, power supplies, digital meters, and voltage and current probes.Salary:

Design electro-mechanical components for power electronics systems and conduct shock and vibration simulations and tests for those systems. Perform thermal simulations and analyses of heat generators in power electronics systems. Design, develop, and finalize the mechanical designs for power converters and power electronics modules by selecting the appropriate components and material types and will arrange components inside the power converter's enclosure to meet thermal requirements. Design cooling systems and custom parts for power converters, including sheet metal, heat sinks, bus bars, and cables, to meet the necessary electrical and mechanical requirements for power converters. Create drawings and necessary documentation for cable harness designs and cable assembly. Design shock and vibration test fixtures and ensure power electronics module efficiency and stability by performing shock and vibration tests. Manage contract manufacturers and coordinate with the design for manufacturability contractor in order to ensure that all power electronics and converters meet design requirements and have the correct implementations according to company standards.Requirements:
Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or related field plus five (5) years of progressive Design Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related experience including three (3) years of experience: managing all phases of the design process for a multitude of products, components, parts, assemblies and subassemblies; providing product design of plastic, sheet metal, machining, extrusion metal parts for structural and electro-mechanical interfaces; determining appropriate manufacturing and testing processes; reviewing documentation packages and test reports of products prior to release and determining product performance; performing geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and design for manufacturability (DFM); providing tolerance stack-up analysis and worst case analysis for various assemblies; providing system/mechanical design, modeling, analysis, and review; and creating 3D CAD modeling.Salary:
