Job Title:
Construction Field Support Job Description The Construction Field Support professional installs, configures, and maintains GPS machine control systems on heavy equipment to ensure accurate and efficient construction operations. This role combines hands-on field work, technical troubleshooting, and training responsibilities, working closely with project teams to support reliable machine guidance and surveying workflows across diverse job sites. Responsibilities Install, configure, and calibrate GPS machine control systems on heavy equipment to meet project specifications and performance standards. Perform site localizations, including base and rover setups, to establish accurate reference systems for machine guidance and surveying activities. Conduct field diagnostics to identify, isolate, and resolve issues with GPS machine control hardware, sensors, and software. Troubleshoot hardware and software problems in real time, using diagnostic tools and systematic methods to restore system functionality. Train equipment operators and site personnel on the use of hardware, software, and machine guidance systems, ensuring they understand proper operation and safety procedures. Conduct routine equipment maintenance, testing, and calibration to maintain optimal performance and minimize downtime. Collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and service teams to support customer needs and ensure successful system deployments. Document all installations, service activities, troubleshooting steps, and training sessions in a clear and organized manner. Communicate effectively with operators, surveyors, project managers, and engineers to coordinate work, clarify requirements, and address technical issues. Follow all job-site safety protocols and company safety procedures while working on active construction sites. Use tools such as multimeters and other electrical test equipment to diagnose and verify electrical, sensor, and communication system performance. Support preventive maintenance programs for machine control systems and related components to reduce failures and extend equipment life. Essential Skills Proven experience installing, configuring, and calibrating GPS machine control systems on heavy equipment. Hands-on troubleshooting skills with mechanical, electrical, and machine sensor components in a construction environment. Experience with major GPS machine control or surveying platforms such as Trimble, Topcon, or Leica. Back ground in construction surveying, including familiarity with field workflows and equipment. Strong understanding of coordinate systems, site calibration, and construction staking concepts. Ability to independently diagnose electrical, sensor, and communication issues using diagnostic tools, including multimeters. Experience training equipment operators or field personnel on technical systems and software. Comfort working with automation and machine guidance technologies in heavy civil or construction settings. Ability to perform preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration on field equipment. Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with operators, surveyors, project managers, and engineers. Strong problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to field diagnostics and issue resolution. Additional Skills & Qualifications Mechanical aptitude and experience working with construction equipment and related systems. Electrical troubleshooting experience in field environments, including wiring, sensors, and control systems. Familiarity with construction job-site practices, safety standards, and field documentation. Comfort using diagnostic software and tools for GPS, automation, and machine control systems. Ability to manage multiple assignments across different job sites while maintaining detailed records of work performed. Work Environment This role involves extensive travel, with approximately 75% of the time spent on construction job sites across the United States. You will work primarily outdoors and must be comfortable operating in extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, and varying terrain. The position is highly hands-on, with roughly 70-80% of the work consisting of physical field activities such as equipment installation, calibration, and maintenance. You will regularly interact with heavy construction equipment, GPS and machine control systems, and diagnostic tools such as multimeters. The work environment follows strict job-site safety protocols and requires appropriate field attire and personal protective equipment suitable for active construction sites. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Santa Fe Springs, CA.
