Electrical Hardware Engineer The Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for the design and development of chargers, peripheral equipment, and large Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The role involves designing low-power circuit card assemblies and high-power circuits for managing both AC and DC power transfer and storage. Additionally, the engineer will provide production and field support for troubleshooting and root cause analysis, as well as special order variations. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert in high-power lead acid and Lithium battery chargers, battery energy storage solutions (BESS), and other electrical designs, providing guidance to other electrical engineers, systems engineers, and stakeholders across various locations. Responsibilities Design power circuits and controllers for Chargers and BESS. Create cables, wire harnesses, and circuit card designs utilizing Altium, including schematics, PCB, and fabrication files. Manage design project tasks to ensure timely completion according to the project schedule. Oversee prototype builds, testing, and utilization of various test equipment in a controlled lab environment. Generate production prints and documentation for manufacturing. Design and implement end-of-line production quality test solutions. Consider Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Safety (DfS), and Design for Environment (DfE) in new product development. Investigate and propose Value Analysis & Value Engineering (VAVE) improvements. Interface with subcontract entities to maintain production. Collaborate with customer service and sales to aid root cause analysis and specify new products. Write embedded firmware for digital power controls where applicable, or communicate detailed code requirements to software engineering. Perform other tasks as required within the framework of power electronics design. Essential Skills Extensive experience in PCB/circuit design and testing electronics in a lab. Knowledge of power electronics, including low and high voltage. Understanding of power conversion, preferably AC to DC. Experience with firmware and microcontroller programming. Proficiency in MATLAB and Python. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related electronics field. 2-5 years of experience in power electronics, particularly AC/DC power converters and digital power control of switching topologies. Proficiency in Altium or a similar electronics design software. Proficiency in PSIM or other power simulation tools. Practical skills such as soldering and crimping small gauge wires. Experience with UL, CEC, and EMC regulatory standards is a plus. Experience with embedded software coding in C for digital power control is advantageous. Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of industrial lead-acid and/or Lithium-ion batteries is desirable. Strong communication, time management, and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle multiple products/projects and track product life cycles. Self-motivated and ambitious with strong organizational skills. Highly motivated problem solver with attention to detail. Experience in energy storage, lithium batteries, or charger product documentation is beneficial. Proficiency in MS Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, Visio, MS-Project, and Excel. Work Environment The role involves working with a team of electrical and mechanical engineers on-site, spread across Alpharetta, GA, and Ruckersville, VA. The Director is based in Ottawa and maintains daily communication with both teams. This Power Electronics Engineer is located in Ruckersville, so occasional travel to this location may be required. The position can be based in either Alpharetta or Ruckersville. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Alpharetta, GA.
