12-Month W2 Contract initially Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Electronic Component Project Engineer to support the sustainment, obsolescence management, and lifecycle maintenance of legacy electronic products and systems. This role will focus on ensuring long-term product support through component risk assessment, engineering change execution, validation activities, supplier coordination, and cross-functional collaboration. Working under the direction of a Project Lead or Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining product reliability, mitigating component obsolescence risks, and supporting engineering governance processes across a global organization. Key Responsibilities Project Execution & Engineering Support Execute component sustainment and obsolescence mitigation projects in alignment with approved engineering plans. Own technical deliverables for assigned components, subsystems, or product families. Complete project tasks on schedule while proactively identifying and escalating risks. Maintain accurate engineering documentation, records, and project status updates. Participate in technical reviews, project meetings, and engineering discussions. Component Sustainment & Obsolescence Management Assess risks associated with component end-of-life (EOL), supplier discontinuations, and long lead-time materials.
Support mitigation strategies including:
Last-Time Buys (LTB) Alternate component qualification Redesign and replacement initiatives Maintain component lifecycle data and sustainment plans using company's engineering tools. Support long-term supply continuity efforts for legacy electronic platforms. Design Control & Engineering Governance Execute engineering activities within established design control processes. Support engineering change implementation, supplier transitions, and ownership transfers. Prepare technical documentation and engineering evidence for design reviews, deviations, and change approvals. Ensure compliance with company design standards and documentation requirements. Validation & Technical Analysis Support validation testing activities including: EMC/EMI Testing Environmental Testing Vibration Testing Functional Verification Coordinate testing efforts with internal and external laboratories. Analyze validation results and summarize findings to support engineering decisions. Participate in NPI and design review meetings, presenting test results and technical recommendations. Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration Work directly with suppliers to resolve technical issues and manage phase-out notifications. Support supplier technical reviews and assessments. Collaborate with engineering, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and program teams to ensure product continuity. Provide regular updates during sustainment and obsolescence review meetings. Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement Support compliance initiatives related to RoHS, CE, and other applicable industry standards. Participate in corrective action and quality improvement efforts. Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, data quality, and execution efficiency. Team Environment Collaborate with a global engineering organization consisting of 22 engineers across the United States, India, and China. Work closely with a core team of: 9 engineers in the United States 13 engineers across India and China Participate in regular project reviews, design reviews, and obsolescence management meetings.
Basic / Required
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.

3+ years of relevant experience Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) programs. Knowledge of electronic component obsolescence and sustainment practices. Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Desired / Preferred
Qualifications Experience supporting legacy electronic hardware platforms and product sustainment initiatives. Understanding of component lifecycle management and supply continuity strategies. Experience coordinating validation testing and laboratory activities. Familiarity with engineering change management and design control processes. Experience working with global engineering teams and suppliers. Knowledge of electronic control modules (ECMs), telematics systems, displays, or embedded electronics.
