Experienced Field Engineering Technician Position Description & QualificationsAre you an Engineering professional seeking an opportunity to contribute meaningfully each day? Then Serco has the right opportunity for you!!As an Experienced Engineering Service Technician, you will support the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Public Safety Systems (PSS) Program in Annaplois, Maryland at the Naval Support Activity Annapolis (US Naval Acedemy), w you will be responsible for troubleshooting Public Safety Systems (PSS) equipment and assets. Performance will be assessed based on the operational availability of PSS and Emergency Management (EM) systems. This role encompasses preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and direct collaboration with our Navy clients to ensure their systems consistently operate effectively.

Serco supports the Commander Naval Installations Command (CNIC) in their efforts to provide and maintain Physical Security Systems (PSS) and Emergency Management (EM) Systems. Our team delivers both preventive and corrective maintenance services to Navy installations worldwide as the prime contractor for the Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) Ashore Global Sustainment Contract (GSC). The mission involves designing, procuring, integrating, installing, and sustaining system hardware, associated firmware, and software to ensure the protection of mission-critical assets and personnel from natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other human-caused incidents.

In this role, you will:
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain various products and equipment, such as alarm systems, naval munitions, public address systems, cameras, intrusion detection systems, emergency operation centers, regional dispatch centers, security gates, wide-area alert systems, indoor voice communication, dispatch operations, and providing support for regional and emergency operation centers as required.
  • Provide training to employees, diagnosing, analyzing, and repairing product failures, and coordinating the ordering and replacement of parts as necessary.
  • Assess customer needs to recommend appropriate products or services that align with those requirements.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an active (DoD) Secret clearance.
  • A Master's degree.
  • Other education such as a Bachelor's Degree, Associate's degree or a High School Diploma/GED and additional relevant/similar professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Master's Degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of autonomous work experience, demonstrating the ability to make technical decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Practical/relevant/similar experience in system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs within field operations.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard concepts, practices, and procedures, including:
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems.
  • Reading and interpreting technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
  • Implementing safety, security, and compliance protocols in commercial, military, or governmental settings.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues.
  • Accurately documenting maintenance activities, repairs, and corrective measures.
  • The ability to cross-train across DC/MD/VA and support operational activities throughout Navy District Washington (NDW).
  • The willingness and ability to travel locally and long distances as needed (up to 10%)
  • Proficiency with one or more of the following systems or technologies. (Candidates are not expected to have experience with all listed items but should demonstrate relevant and transferable technical skills).
  • Access controlled gates (vehicle and pedestrian).
  • Card readers and access control logic.
  • Vehicle barriers and bollards (hydraulic and electromechanical).
  • Electronic Security Systems (ESS) or access control platforms.
  • CCTV and video surveillance systems.
  • Alarms, intrusion detection systems, and sensor networks.
  • Mass Notification / Emergency Alert Systems.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals and network infrastructure.
  • General electronics troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair, including diagnosing and supporting electromechanical systems and field equipment.
  • Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) or Dispatch Centers.
  • Aircraft maintenance or support systems (highly transferable experience).
