The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing and developing power electronic converters utilizing wide band-gap semiconductor technologies (SiC/GaN) , along with embedded control systems based on DSPs and FPGAs. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and test high-power AC-DC, DC-DC, and DC-AC power converters ranging from 50 kW to MW-class systems. Develop control hardware and embedded firmware for power electronic converters , motor drives, and inverter systems. Design and validate control PCBs integrating DSPs, FPGAs, ADCs, and high-speed communication interfaces. Develop and implement digital control algorithms , PWM modulation, current/voltage control loops, software PLLs, harmonic compensation, and motor control algorithms. Perform system integration, prototype development, hardware validation, and troubleshooting of high-voltage power electronics. Develop and execute Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing using platforms such as Typhoon HIL, OPAL-RT, or equivalent . Support power electronics development for defense applications including Navy, Army, and aerospace platforms . Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's or Ph.D. preferred). 8+ years of experience in power electronics engineering . Demonstrated experience with high-power, high-voltage solid-state power conversion .
Hands-on experience designing:
AC-DC converters DC-DC converters DC-AC inverters Active rectifiers Motor drives Solid-state transformers Experience with wide band-gap semiconductor technologies , including Silicon Carbide (SiC) and/or Gallium Nitride (GaN) . Experience programming DSPs (preferably
TI C2000
) and/or FPGAs (Intel/Altera or Xilinx). Strong understanding of embedded control systems , PWM generation, digital control theory, and power converter control algorithms. Experience with MATLAB/Simulink , LTspice, or similar simulation tools. Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance . Preferred Qualifications Experience with Typhoon
HIL , OPAL-RT
, or other real-time simulation platforms. Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, RS-485, Modbus , and fiber-optic interfaces. Experience with modular multilevel converters (MMC) , dual active bridge (DAB) converters, or LLC resonant converters . Experience developing systems for defense, aerospace, naval, or industrial power applications . Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will have a strong background in high-power power electronics , with proven experience designing and controlling high-voltage solid-state converters using SiC/GaN technologies . Candidates with only embedded systems, avionics, RF, or general electrical engineering experience—without substantial power conversion expertise—are unlikely to be a fit for this role.
