Director of Engineering Position Summary The Project Engineer plays a key role in leading engineering activities for a project related to the design, development, and evaluation from concept through launch and sustaining engineering. You'll be the technical owner for products designed by manufacturing partners. You'll translate market needs into clear requirements and use cases, define the user interface and experience, verify design meets requirements as intended, and troubleshoot products. Key Responsibilities Own the product requirements and acceptance criteria. Be the primary interface to the factory during new product development. Engage design teams to ensure requirements are implemented properly and projects are running on-time. Develop user experience across hardware, firmware, and phone apps. Specify user interface flows (screens, LEDs, haptics, audio prompts), and mobile and/or desktop interactions. Develop story boards and wireframes for UI specifications. Verify incoming prototypes meet design requirements and work with quality to create test strategies. Coordinate pre-compliance and certifications (e.g., FCC/IC/CE, UL, Bluetooth SIG).
Ensure documentation is production-ready:
user guides, service documents, etc. Provide training to internal teams, particularly sales and customer experience. Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer or Electrical Engineering, or related field plus 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in engineering on consumer or commercial electronics (or similar complex products). Associate degree or certification in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field plus 10 or more years of relevant experience in engineering on consumer or commercial electronics (or similar complex products). Required Skills & Knowledge Proven experience managing manufacturer-designed (ODM/JDM) programs end-to-end. Strong requirements creation -- decomposing features into measurable requirements and testable acceptance criteria and solid technical writing. Experienced in hardware/firmware integration. Experienced in electrical, mechanical and software development and RF concepts. Excellent communication with global partners -- able to drive accountability without direct authority. Effectively use debug logs, oscilloscopes, spectrum/network analyzers. Triage field, lab, and factory issues. Desired Skills & Knowledge Understanding of radio frequency theory and operation. Understanding of IoT/Bluetooth experience. Exposure to factory processes (ICT/FPVT/OBA) and reliability methods (HALT/HASS). Experience with compliance workflows (FCC/CE). Mandarin or other partner-language proficiency. Ability to travel to Asia 1 to 3 times per annum.
