Clarificion from the agency The area of considerion for this position is CAT 1 (Areas 1-4) (Air). Duties Help As a Architect/Engineer , GS-0808-12 , you responsible for the acquisition, construction, maintenance, repair, and opering of real property facilities, and provide reled management, engineering, and other support work; specifically, this includes acquisition, accountability, and disposal of real este; planning and programming of total requirements for the maintenance, repair, and construction of facilities including financial management of facility programs; provision of basic utility services; maintenance and repair of structures and associed equipment; furnishing snow removal, pest control, fire prevention, and engineering services activities; exercise authority in planning, directing, controlling and coordining architectural/engineering activities; direct total operions through subordine civilian supervisory and non-supervisory personnel; plan, schedule and assign work; establish and monitor internal controls; and ensure uniform applicion of regulions, policies, directives, and professional engineering practices; utilize program and planning documents in determining real property facility requirements for programmed units and activities within the installion; accomplish long and short range planning for replacement of facilities or equipment including contingency operions for potential war or domestic emergency conditions; oversee development and time phasing of operions and maintenance of real property facility and construction programs to ensure assimilion into the overall installion program; represent the Base Architect/Engineer meetings and conferences with HQ ANG and intermedie command staff, Commanders and staff representives of tenant organizions, Division and District Engineer representives of the Corps of Engineers and Naval Facilities Engineering Command, metropolitan airports commission staff; FAA, Veterans Administrion, highway department representives; Federal, ste, and city Environmental Protection Agency representives; coordine on plans, exchange informion, recommend policy or procedures and keeps apprised of new architecture and engineering developments; make decisions in line with prior ANG Base policy and planning, such as priority of new construction, acceptance of completed work, facility disposal, real este acquisition, utilizion, or disposal actions; determine operional trends and forecast requirements; determine and coordine acquisition and use of money, manpower, equipment and merial; plan required organizional structures to establish the essential functional elements necessary to carry out architectural/engineering responsibilities most effectively and economically; delege authority, ensure coordinion, and develop new managerial methods and techniques to increase program effectiveness and decrease costs; provide technical instructions and informion on architectural/engineering and other technical requirements and assign phases of projects to subordine architects, engineers, engineering technicians, and draftsmen; review work accomplishment during progress and upon completion direct changes to achieve technically accure and adeque layout and design computions, specificions, and estimes; establish technical engineering/architectural processes, criteria, and functions; prepare or direct the preparion of engineering/architectural drawings, specificions and independent cost estimes for the construction, modificion and maintenance of a wide variety of military buildings, structures, pavements, grounds, and utilities systems; review architectural drawings, sketches, and specificions for technical adequacy, constructability, maintainability, operability, and interpretion in terms of requirements for manpower, supplies, and equipment; participe as technical consultant and government engineering/architectural representive in conferences with Architectural-Engineering firms to insure th completed designs meet Air Force requirements in terms of technical sufficiency and economical use of funds and merials; through subordine supervisors, directs approximely twenty-five or more civilian and military employees engaged in readiness, Crash-Fire-Rescue engineering design, explosive ordnance disposal engineering, and operional facility maintenance duties, is responsible for providing training and facilities for the OJT and proficiency training of approximely 100 drill stus officers and airmen; develop and maintain effective engineering staff relionships with base and tenant organizions; present briefings on acquisitions, construction, operion, maintenance, and financial management concerning real property facilities; identify and discusses problems as well as corrective actions being taken, program stus, including fiscal aspects of the engineering portion of the annual budget, and reled mters of interest to the Commander and his staff; perform other duties as assigned. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with least one curriculum accredited by the Accredition Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) stics, dynamics; (b) strength of merials (stress-strain relionships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nure and properties of merials (reling particle and aggrege structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, he transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combinion of educion and experience: college-level educion, training, and/or technical experience th furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mhemical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applicions to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstred by one of the following: Professional registrion, Written Test, Specified academic courses and Reled curriculum. Professional registrion -- Current registrion as a professional engineer by any Ste, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registrion by means other than written test (e.g., Ste grandfher or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions th are within or closely reled to the specialty field of their registrion. For example, an applicant who tains registrion through a Ste Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be red eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examinion, or the written test required for professional registrion, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various Stes, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. Eligibility is limited to positions th are within or closely reled to the specialty field of the engineering technology program. Because of the diversity in kind and quality of BET programs, gradues of other BET programs are required to complete least 1 year of additional educion or highly technical work experience of such nure as to provide reasonable assurance of the possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for professional engineering competence. The adequacy of this background must be demonstred by passing the EIT examinion. Specified academic courses -- Successful completion of least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mhemical, and engineering sciences and in engineering th included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum. Reled curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an approprie professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mhemics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
