Tech Lead Electrical Engineer Smithtown, NY | $140,000 - $155,000 Per Year | Full-Time A manufacturer specializing in technology integration for emergency response vehicles is hiring a Tech Lead Electrical Engineer to lead embedded hardware design and development at its Smithtown, NY facility. The company develops systems including wireless networking, vehicle lighting, pressure governors, sensors, and control modules for first responder applications. This is a technical leadership role combining hands-on hardware ownership with direct oversight of a small engineering team, and it carries responsibility across the full product lifecycle from concept through production. Compensation:
$140,000 - $155,000 Per Year What You'll Do As Tech Lead Electrical Engineer, you will own the design and development of embedded electronic systems across multiple first responder product lines. Your technical scope includes defining product architectures, selecting components such as microcontrollers, sensors, and drivers, and driving hardware development through schematic design, PCB layout, functional testing, and system-level validation. You will ensure that designs meet performance requirements and applicable regulatory and EMC/EMI compliance standards. You will also develop and maintain hardware component specifications, system-level specifications, and functional test plans, and you will work to continuously improve development processes, documentation, and design standards across the team. In the leadership dimension of this role, you will provide day-to-day technical guidance and mentorship to a team of 2 to 3 engineers. You will lead technical decision-making, manage development schedules and priorities, and coordinate resource planning within your group. You will collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, manufacturing engineers, and product managers to deliver solutions that are both technically robust and manufacturable at scale. You will support product testing, validation, and transition to manufacturing, and you will partner with cross-functional teams to drive engineering best practices across the organization.
