This role requires strong technical expertise in AV systems, signal flow, and supporting networks; hands-on field experience; and the ability to work independently while delivering high-quality client experience. The Field Engineer ensures AV systems are installed in accordance with design intent, verified against project requirements, and transitioned to operational use in compliance with applicable standards and safety practices.
Responsibilities:
Install, integrate, configure, and commission audio, video, control, and unified communication solutions in accordance with approved design documentation. Perform system verification, functional testing, audio tuning, and video calibration to confirm system performance meets project criteria. Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to AV hardware, control systems, software, and network connectivity. Interpret and execute work based on AV drawings, schematics, rack elevations, system flow diagrams, and cable pull schedules. Integrate AV systems including displays, projection, audio DSPs, microphones, loudspeakers, cameras, control systems, user interfaces, and collaboration platforms. Configure control systems and user interfaces in coordination with programmers to meet operational and usability requirements. Coordinate with project managers, programmers, and designers to ensure successful deployment and system readiness. Provide on-site and remote technical support during installation, commissioning, and post-installation phases. Conduct client walk-throughs, system demonstrations, and basic end-user training to support system adoption. Maintain accurate project documentation including as-built drawings, configuration notes, and service reports. Ensure installations conform with company standards, safety requirements, and recognized AV industry standards and best practices. Support preventative maintenance and system upgrades as needed Participate as a 24/7 on-call service technician on a rotational basis to support incident response, system outages, and urgent service needs Travel to job sites as required, including occasional overnight travel Required Experience & Qualifications Proven experience installing, testing and supporting professional AV systems. Strong knowledge of AV signal flow, gain structure, audio and video fundamentals, and system integration. Hands-on experience with AV components including displays, projectors, microphones, speakers, DSPs, cameras, and control systems. Working knowledge of AV transport technologies including
HDMI, SDI, AV
over IP, and network-based AV transport. Ability to troubleshoot systems using test equipment and software tools. Basic understanding of networking concepts (IP addressing, VLANs, PoE) Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently in the field and manage time effectively Valid driver's license and ability to pass background checks as required Preferred Qualifications Experience with platforms such as Crestron, Extron, QSC, Biamp, or AMX. Experience with collaboration systems (Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Webex). Familiarity with AVIXA performance standards, best practices, and quality assurance concepts. CTS or CTS-I certification (or willingness to obtain) Experience working in corporate, education, healthcare, or government environments Physical & Work Requirements Must be able to sit, stand, walk, crawl, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs unaided. Must be able to safely use ladders and work at heights as required. Must be able to see, feel and hear to company's standards Must be insurable for driving and any other job-related purposes Must be able to operate equipment safely and without harm to self or others Must be able to use keyboard and other equipment without assistance Must be able to work in office, warehouse, and other environments. Must be able to drive a box truck up to 26 feet in length. Availability outside normal business hours is required. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
