Field Engineer Job Description The Field Engineer provides on-site and remote technical support for microelectronics and semiconductor assembly equipment, including die bonders (die attach), wire and wedge bonders, and vacuum reflow ovens. This role installs and qualifies new equipment, performs preventive and corrective maintenance, and manages support cases end-to-end to maximize equipment uptime, production yield, and customer satisfaction. Responsibilities Provide on-site and remote technical support for microelectronics and semiconductor assembly equipment, including die bonders, wire and wedge bonders, and vacuum reflow ovens. Install, configure, and qualify new equipment at customer facilities to meet performance and process specifications. Perform preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and extend asset life. Diagnose and resolve complex electro-mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on capital equipment. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and mechanical drawings to support troubleshooting and repair activities. Use digital multimeters (DMMs) and precision measurement tools to test, verify, and calibrate equipment performance. Own support cases end-to-end, including triage, troubleshooting, escalation when needed, and closure, while maintaining clear documentation. Communicate effectively with customers to explain findings, recommended actions, and status updates in a clear and professional manner. Work calmly and efficiently under time pressure to restore equipment functionality and support production schedules. Collaborate with internal technical teams to escalate and resolve complex issues and share field feedback. Document service activities, findings, and resolutions accurately in service reports and case management systems. Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues, proposing solutions, and contributing to best practices for field service. Travel regularly to customer sites within the assigned territory and occasionally beyond, including potential weekend or holiday visits when required. Essential Skills Strong electro-mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with motors and servos, sensors, motion control concepts, pneumatics, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings. Proficiency using digital multimeters (DMMs) and precision measurement tools for diagnostics and calibration. Experience supporting capital equipment in semiconductor, microelectronics assembly, automation, or related industries. Excellent customer communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues and solutions clearly. Strong documentation and case ownership skills, with the ability to manage support issues from triage through closure. Ability to work calmly and effectively under time pressure and in high-urgency situations. 3+ years of field service, equipment maintenance, or technical support experience. Hands-on experience with wire bonding and vacuum reflow equipment or similar microelectronics assembly tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Background in electromechanical systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair. Familiarity with servo systems, motors, sensors, and motion control concepts. Experience working with pneumatics in an equipment or automation environment. Ability to adapt to different customer environments and follow site-specific procedures and protocols. Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on maximizing uptime and yield for production equipment. Work Environment This role combines field-based and office-based work, with approximately 50% spent traveling to customer sites and 50% spent working from the Carlsbad office. The position involves frequent travel within the assigned territory, with typical ranges varying by region and occasional travel on weekends or holidays as required by customer needs. Field Engineers work in cleanroom and ESD-controlled environments and must follow all customer safety procedures and site protocols. The role requires the ability to lift and move typical service tools and parts, commonly up to approximately 50 pounds, and to work around equipment that may require kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods. Work is performed around advanced microelectronics and semiconductor assembly tools, using diagnostic instruments such as digital multimeters and precision measurement devices in a professional, safety-focused environment. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Carlsbad, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $83200.00 - $83200.00/yr.
