Job Description
Description We are looking for an Audio Visual Engineer to support end-to-end AV projects in San Antonio, Texas, from initial discovery through final system delivery. This role combines client consultation, technical design, field coordination, and commissioning to ensure each solution is practical, reliable, and aligned with project goals. The ideal candidate brings strong design documentation skills, hands-on system integration knowledge, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients and installation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate project sites to document existing conditions, infrastructure readiness, and technical considerations that may affect system design or delivery.
- Partner with clients to gather operational needs, room usage expectations, and performance goals, then convert those inputs into effective AV solutions.
- Produce detailed design packages using AutoCAD or Visio, including system layouts, schematics, block diagrams, and supporting technical documentation.
- Collaborate with estimating and project stakeholders by preparing material quantities, contributing labor insights, and reviewing plans for constructability.
- Coordinate design intent with architectural documents and other trades to help ensure successful installation in the field.
- Support installation teams during project execution by answering engineering questions and helping resolve design-related issues.
- Lead or assist with commissioning activities such as DSP adjustment, control system checks, signal path verification, calibration, and overall performance testing.
- Diagnose and correct technical issues that arise during the final phase of deployment to confirm systems are operating as intended.
- Conduct client walkthroughs, provide end-user training, and serve as a technical point of contact to support successful project handoff. Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in audio visual design, systems integration, commissioning, or a closely related technical role.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Visio for creating AV drawings, layouts, and engineering documentation.
- Demonstrated experience performing site surveys and leading client-facing discussions to define technical requirements.
- Hands-on knowledge of AV commissioning, including troubleshooting, testing, tuning, and validation of system performance.
- Working familiarity with AV technologies such as Crestron, Extron, Biamp, DSP platforms, signal flow, and basic networking concepts.
- Required certification in Q-SYS Level 1 or an equivalent manufacturer credential relevant to AV system deployment.
- Experience with structured cabling, low-voltage systems, security, access control, or related infrastructure environments.
- Ability to independently manage technical workstreams from initial survey through design, installation support, and final commissioning.
