Job Description

Job Title:
Embedded Controls Engineer We are seeking an Embedded Controls Engineer to develop and validate control algorithms for electric motor and power electronics systems that run on PCB-based embedded controllers . This position is focused on controls theory, system modeling, and model-based algorithm development — not PLC programming or ladder logic. You will use MATLAB and Simulink daily to model plant dynamics, design controllers, simulate performance, and support validation and integration of control logic into embedded platforms that manage power transfer (e.g., inverters, motor drives, DC/DC, energy routing, etc.). Key Responsibilities Design and develop control algorithms for electric motor control and/or power conversion/control functions (e.g., torque/speed/current regulation, power routing, protections). Build and maintain system and plant models ; synthesize and tune controllers using model-based design techniques in MATLAB/Simulink . Translate high-level functional needs into control requirements , simulation artifacts, and testable designs; document assumptions, constraints, and interfaces. Perform simulation and validation across development stages such as
MIL/SIL/HIL
, bench testing, and/or hardware bring-up support (as applicable to the product). Analyze test and time-series data, troubleshoot control behavior, and iterate on models/parameters to achieve performance and robustness targets. Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, embedded software/firmware, systems, and test teams to ensure the control design integrates cleanly onto the target controller/PCB platform. Required Qualifications (Must-Haves) 5+ years of experience in embedded controls / control algorithm development (not PLC automation). Strong foundation in controls theory (e.g., feedback control, stability, dynamics, estimation/filters—commensurate with role scope). MATLAB + Simulink (must-have) with hands-on, production-level usage (modeling, simulation, controller implementation). Experience working on systems involving electric motors and "what they do" in the context of control (motor/inverter behavior, actuation, power transfer). Experience interfacing with embedded controller hardware/PCBs in power-control applications (e.g., controlling power electronics, transferring power, sensing/actuation). Ability to communicate clearly across disciplines and produce practical engineering documentation (requirements, validation notes, design decisions). Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves) MS in Physics or a strong physics-based (or MS in EE/ME/Controls)—especially if paired with applied controls work. Experience in power electronics control (inverters, converters, motor drives, power routing/energy management). Exposure to auto-code generation workflows from Simulink (e.g., Embedded Coder / TargetLink) and/or model guidelines.[ Hands-on familiarity with lab equipment and testing for power/control systems (bench bring-up, debug, validation). Familiarity with structured verification approaches and test environments (HIL rigs, real-time simulation platforms). Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Franksville, WI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00/yr. Full benefits- health, dental, vision, 401K Workplace Type This is a fully onsite position in Franksville,WI. Application Deadline This position is anticipated to close on May 8, 2026.
