Highlights of the job EPCOR's Commercial Services, Energy Management (EEM) group is excited to welcome an Analyst, Energy Forecasting [a Full-time Permanent position] working out of Calgary or Edmonton office. This role is ideal for a curious, data driven analyst who enjoys solving complex forecasting challenges and wants to contribute meaningful work that shapes energy outcomes for today and the future. As an Analyst, Energy Forecasting, you play a key role in shaping how EPCOR understands and prepares for future electricity and natural gas demand across Alberta and other jurisdictions. Your work directly supports reliable, cost-effective energy planning for the communities we serve, influencing pricing, hedging decisions, portfolio risk management, budgeting, and long-term planning. You will work at the intersection of data, energy markets, and operational decision making, while combining analytical depth with practical insight that help translate weather patterns, economic drivers, and market signals into actionable load forecasts and models for EPCOR's front office and internal stakeholders. What you'd be responsible for Reporting to the Manager, Energy Forecasting, this position will be responsible for the following (but not limited to): Providing input that supports energy forecasting plans and alignment with EPCOR Energy Management's goals as well as completing forecasting deliverables within the business plan. Producing short, medium, and long‑term electricity and natural gas load forecasts for EPCOR portfolios. Identifying resources, tools or data requirements needed for effective forecasting and model development. Ensuring accuracy and effectiveness against key performance indicators or metrics such as forecast error targets, volumetric thresholds, profit and loss (P&L) timelines and operational timelines. Ensuring forecasting processes comply with EPCOR policies, standards, risk mitigation practices and regulatory expectations. Contributing to the development, testing, and refinement of advanced forecasting and statistical models, including scenario and sensitivity planning. Tracking and improving forecast accuracy using metrics such as mean absolute error and bias, and analyzing drivers of error. Preparing recurring dashboards and reports that summarize forecast outcomes, key assumptions, and risk drivers for stakeholders such as trading, risk, and finance. Monitoring weather patterns, economic indicators, and market fundamentals to incorporate into forecasting assumptions and support hedging, risk, and operational decisions. Performing scenario and sensitivity analyses (e.g., weather, economic factors, market conditions) to quantify uncertainty and support hedging and operational decisions. What's required to be successful Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer/Data Science, Engineering, Economics, or Finance or related field. 2+ years of experience in data analytics, energy forecasting, market analytics, or a related quantitative field Individuals including new graduates with less than the required experience may be considered in a developmental capacity based on demonstrated ability to meet the core responsibilities of the role. Experience developing load and/or price forecasts, including model development, validation, back-testing, and KPI reporting. Technical Skills Proficiency in SQL, Python (pandas, NumPy; statistics/time-series libraries), and advanced Excel; experience using Power BI or other visualization tools. Experience with time-series and weather-normalized modeling, scenario analysis and back-testing. Soft Skills Strong analytical reasoning with the ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences. Strong attention to accuracy and quality, demonstrated through consistently delivering high-quality work. Ability to work cross functionally and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and agile environment. Being curious and has a passion for solving complex forecasting challenges that have real impact on EPCOR's customers and communities. Assets [Nice to Have] A Master's degree. Exposure to electricity and/or natural gas markets (e.g., market operations, load/price fundamentals, commodity risk).
