Mission Analysis Engineer Space Systems & EO/IR Mission Modeling On-site in El Segundo, CA Target salary range: $150,750 - $269,000 Mission Architect job in El Segundo, California is available with Moseley Technical Services Top Space / Defense company! In this full time, direct hire, salaried job you will join a fast, agile satellite company focused on national security as an OPIR/Tracking Systems Subject Matter Expert, overseeing mission architecture and spacecraft/constellation design across many programs. Lead the modeling, simulation, and mission analysis efforts for advanced satellite programs and proposals. As the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA), you will develop mission-level simulations, EO/IR sensor performance models, tracking and estimation algorithms, and system performance validation tools that support space-based missions from concept development through on-orbit operations.
Responsibilities:
Build, maintain, and execute large-scale satellite constellation simulations to evaluate mission effectiveness and performance against customer requirements. Serve as the Responsible Engineering Authority (REA) for mission analysis activities on programs, studies, and proposals. Own the end-to-end EO/IR image processing and performance modeling chain, from photon collection through mission-level operational effects. Develop payload and spacecraft performance models to support architecture trades, system design decisions, and mission planning. Design and implement advanced algorithms for EO/IR sensing, image processing, inertial tracking, state estimation, and optimal control. Develop Concepts of Operations (CONOPS) and Design Reference Missions (DRMs), including associated modeling and simulation environments. Create tools and platforms used to validate system performance during on-orbit operations. Collaborate with software and firmware engineering teams to deploy simulation capabilities, including software-in-the-loop (SIL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments. Partner with technical and program leadership to ensure technical execution, schedule performance, and successful delivery of mission solutions. Support technical planning, task execution, risk management, and customer engagements throughout the program lifecycle.
Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law Ability to Obtain a Secret Clearance Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. 9+ years of experience in aerospace systems design, analysis, modeling, simulation, or operations. Experience developing modeling and simulation environments using MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and/or C++. Experience with EO/IR systems, image processing, and sensor performance analysis. Experience in orbital mechanics, spacecraft dynamics, and kinematic state estimation. Experience analyzing complex satellite or space-based systems. Ability to obtain and maintain an interim and final Top Secret clearance post-start.
Preferred Qualifications:
14+ years of experience in satellite design, development, or operations. Active TS/SCI security clearance. Experience with government image modeling and simulation tools including
ASSET, PRA
Toolkit, and/or AFSIM. Experience with space-to-space communications networks and distributed satellite architectures. Experience with hardware development and modeling tools including VHDL, Verilog, and Vitis Model Composer.
