JOB DESCRIPTION
Sentient Energy is seeking a motivated and creative Intern to support our Utility Analytics team. This internship is designed for students who want hands-on experience working with real-world data from electric utility systems. The intern will focus on Python and SQL development while learning how data analytics is applied in modern power grid and energy systems.
JOB SUMMARY
Write and maintain Python scripts to clean, analyze, and visualize data Develop and optimize SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data from databases Assist with building simple data pipelines and analytical workflows Support analysis of electric grid and sensor data under guidance from senior team members Create basic reports, charts, and summaries to communicate findings Collaborate with data scientists and engineers on real utility analytics projects
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of Python (e.g., pandas, numpy, basic scripting) Basic to intermediate SQL skills (queries, joins, aggregations) Understanding of data structures and basic data analysis concepts Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to learn quickly and work in a team environment What Will Put You Ahead? Familiarity with AWS or cloud computing concepts (e.g., S3, EC2, databases) Interest in or basic knowledge of electric utility, power systems, or energy data Experience with data visualization tools or libraries Exposure to version control tools such as Git
EDUCATION
Currently completing a Bachelor's or post-graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related STEM field. What You Will Gain Hands-on experience with Python and SQL on real utility-scale datasets Exposure to analytics used in modern electric power and energy systems Mentorship from experienced data scientists and engineers Experience working with cloud-based and production-style data environments
