Location:
This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday assigned to Essexville Headquarter located in Essexville,MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Principal Renewables Engineer is responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants, as well as emerging technologies and systems that harness renewable energy sources. This role provides technical leadership to engineers and technicians engaged in feasibility studies, cost estimating, and oversight of new plant construction. The incumbent is accountable for the performance of existing facilities and for developing innovative methods to improve plant efficiency, ranging from the design of individual components to overseeing the end-to-end development of new renewable energy facilities. The Principal Renewables Engineer will be dedicated to the engineering and operational performance of multiple solar and battery resources and long-term financial planning of solar and battery resources statewide. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform environmental assessments of proposed construction or demolition sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate the potential for new renewable energy projects Analyze potential sites for wind farms using factors such as wind speed, terrain, vegetation, and proximity to transmission lines and load centers Design, develop, and oversee the construction and installation of renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants Prepare technical reports documenting the results of feasibility studies Design plans and specifications for renewable energy systems Monitor the performance of renewable energy systems and implement modifications to improve efficiency Maintain awareness of emerging renewable energy technologies and systems Provide guidance and technical leadership to teams of engineers and other professionals supporting renewable energy projects Write grant proposals to secure funding for renewable energy initiatives Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Proficiency in AutoCAD, Mathcad, and Microsoft Office Proficiency in engineering design and calculation software Strong written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills Extensive knowledge of energy storage systems, solar PV, and wind turbine technologies Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with seven (7) or more years of experience in a renewable engineering role. [OR] Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with (7) or more years of experience in a renewable engineering role.
