As a recognized leader in the specification, design, development, validation and production launch of advanced vehicle and powertrain systems, IAV Automotive Engineering deploys a leading team of technical experts, engineering tools and program processes from its North American Headquarters in Novi, Michigan. IAV is currently seeking a highly motivated Energy Systems OBDII Architect is responsible for defining and implementing the On-Board Diagnostics (OBDII) strategy across Energy Systems, with a strong emphasis on Thermal and Climate systems. This role ensures regulatory compliance, system-level integration, and robust customer diagnostics for advanced electrified vehicle platforms, including Gasoline Range Extended Electric Vehicles (GREEV). Candidate must be a resident or willing to relocate in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will play a key role in delivering innovative, high-quality electrical solutions from concept through production while collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Essential Responsibilities & Activities:
Define and architect the Energy Systems OBDII strategy, including requirements development with a focus on Thermal and Climate Systems. Develop OBD strategies tailored for Gasoline Range Extended Electric Vehicles (GREEV) platforms. Apply knowledge of OBD regulations (e.g., J1968, J1979) to define hardware and software requirements supporting vehicle-level diagnostics. Author and maintain the Energy Systems OBD specification book. Establish and maintain a long-term OBD roadmap to ensure compliance, serviceability, and customer satisfaction across vehicle programs. Collaborate with System Engineers to define and align OBD execution strategies. Work closely with hardware and software teams to integrate OBD functionality into the overall Energy Systems architecture. Maintain OBD requirements using Scout LMS tools (e.g., Codebeamer). Guide development of OBD processes, tools, and best practices within the Energy Systems organization. Develop and manage Design Verification Plans (DVPs) for OBD validation. Participate in vehicle calibration and validation trips as needed. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (Master's preferred). 3-10 years of experience in OBD systems, diagnostics, or automotive electrical/electronic systems. Strong knowledge of OBDII regulations and standards (e.g., SAE
J1968, J1979
). Experience in automotive energy systems, including thermal, charging, or energy management domains. Experience defining system requirements, diagnostic strategies, and architecture. Familiarity with embedded systems, vehicle networks, and diagnostic communication protocols. Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., Codebeamer or similar). Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and ability to align multiple engineering teams. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Experience working on electrified or hybrid vehicle platforms (HEV, PHEV, BEV, GREEV). Experience with diagnostic calibration, validation, and vehicle-level testing. Understanding of thermal and climate control system diagnostics. Knowledge of vehicle development processes (e.g., ASPICE, V-model). German language proficiency. Strong technical curiosity and willingness to learn across multiple domains German language proficiency is preferred.
