Job Description

Engineer Technician I Location:
Charlotte, NC Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer Technician I to support engineering and utility infrastructure projects within our Charlotte operations. This entry-level role offers a blend of field and office responsibilities, providing hands-on experience in engineering support, field data collection, construction coordination, and electrical design development. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, enjoys problem-solving, and is interested in building a career within the utility, power delivery, or engineering industry. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers and project teams, you will contribute to the successful execution of projects while developing technical and professional skills. Key Responsibilities Support engineers with technical projects by collecting, compiling, organizing, and maintaining engineering and field data. Assist in the creation, assembly, modification, testing, and repair of prototypes, equipment, and technical components as needed. Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including reports, drawings, sketches, diagrams, schematics, and project records. Perform basic engineering calculations and data analysis in accordance with established engineering standards and procedures. Assist in identifying technical issues and recommending solutions based on field observations, engineering principles, and project requirements. Set up and perform tests, document results, and support engineering analysis and evaluations. Review client-provided project information and assess scope requirements to support accurate engineering designs and deliverables. Coordinate with permitting agencies, right-of-way specialists, utility system owners, forestry teams, field personnel, and third-party stakeholders. Provide engineering support throughout construction activities and conduct post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications. Assist with outage investigations by conducting root cause analyses and supporting the development of corrective actions and mitigation strategies. Travel to project sites to perform inspections, verify field conditions, collect data, and document existing infrastructure. Support the development of electrical design packages and engineering work products using field-collected data. Communicate effectively with supervisors, engineers, project teams, and external stakeholders regarding project progress and technical information. Follow established procedures, safety requirements, and company policies while working on assignments of limited complexity under close supervision. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn and apply basic engineering and scientific principles. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Willingness and ability to work outdoors in varying weather and field conditions. Ability to travel locally to project sites as needed. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, GIS, Surveying, or a related technical field. Experience in electric utility, power delivery, telecommunications, construction, or infrastructure environments. Previous field data collection, inspection, surveying, or construction support experience. Familiarity with engineering drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction documentation. Experience with GIS, CAD, or other engineering-related software platforms. Knowledge of utility design, permitting, right-of-way processes, or joint-use utility pole programs. Work Environment This role offers a balanced mix of office and field work. Candidates should expect to spend time in outdoor environments collecting data, conducting site inspections, and supporting construction activities. Office responsibilities include engineering support, data analysis, documentation preparation, and design package development. Flexibility, adaptability, and a strong commitment to safety are essential for success in this position. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
