The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. This position reports to the Ground & Spaceflight Operations in Blue Origin's Blue National Security business unit. As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of professionals, you will be responsible for training those working all aspects of flight operations including flight ops engineers, fellow instructors, AI&T, and engineering support. The training team is essential to ensuring consistent, repeatable, and reliable mission support. In this role, you will design, develop and execute the lessons, training events, and rehearsals (including nominal and off-nominal simulator scenarios) needed to ensure our mission operations are effective and highly successful. In-Space Systems is comprised of several different types of spacecrafts, which requires a wide range of training topics and modalities. You will also support development for future training infrastructure and scalability, such as simulation software and automation. You will enjoy a fast-paced dynamic environment, contributing innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight. Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and execute training for the ops controllers, engineering support, AI&T, launch services operators, and payload customers for all vehicles within the In-Space System program. Training modalities will include lessons, hands-on events, and on-site rehearsals. Lead specific training areas or initiatives and take direction from senior staff. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, ground software, flight control operators, and payload customers when developing training to ensure it is relevant and supports successful mission support. Run the simulator and training assets as needed for hands-on, practice, and rehearsal events. Define requirements and support development of future training simulators, interfaces, and other training assets. Evaluate console operator proficiency and currency for mission support; develop ad hoc and contingency training as needed. Maintain accurate records of operator training completion.
Qualifications:
Minimum of a B.S in engineering, education, or equivalent 5 years of experience in developing and executing training for mission support operators and engineers in a space oriented, military, or government environment Strong facilitation and communication skills to lead technical training and debriefs Experience writing training course materials (lesson objective and plans, evaluation criteria, hands-on training activities) Ability to travel to support training activities as needed.
