Job Description

The ideal candidate will have product design experience, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and the ability to multi-task, preferably in an automotive manufacturing setting.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for researching and developing ideas and processes for new products. Improves upon the performance and design of existing products. Design, model, and test prototypes for products. Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management. Determines project responsibilities by identifying project phases, elements and reviewing bids from contractors. Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates. Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests. Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements. Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems. Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions. Controls project costs by approving expenditures. Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Establish design briefs. Produce final drawings and specifications. Create parts lists. Make samples of working models for demonstration. Improve usability of an item. Other duties as assigned. Skills, Education and Experience 6+ years of Product engineering/design experience in an automotive manufacturing environment is preferred. Bachelors in relevant engineering field. Masters preferred. Technical/mechanical aptitude with mechatronics experience and advanced knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, tolerance stacks. Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) to design concepts and simulation software for structure, system, magnetic circuit or flow simulation is preferred. Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and handle multiple projects and assignments with proficiency. Management experience is not required. Ability to travel as required up to 15%.
