Job Description

Water Resources Project Manager•Phoenix, AZ Overview We are seeking a Water Resources Project Manager to lead the planning, analysis, and design of hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) projects across the Phoenix metro area. This role will focus on stormwater management, flood control, drainage, and water infrastructure , supporting both public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in hydrology, hydraulics, and modeling with proven project management and client-facing experience, delivering projects from concept through construction. Key Responsibilities Manage and deliver water resources projects from planning and analysis through design and construction support Lead hydrologic and hydraulic modeling efforts , including watershed analysis, stormwater modeling, and floodplain studies Oversee preparation of drainage studies, floodplain mapping, FEMA documentation, and technical reports Serve as the primary point of contact for clients , agencies, and stakeholders, managing relationships and communication Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and contracts , ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to secure approvals and permits Provide technical oversight for the design of: Stormwater conveyance systems (pipes, channels, culverts) Detention/retention basins and drainage infrastructure Stream stabilization and flood mitigation systems Perform and review engineering calculations, models, and QA/QC deliverables to ensure accuracy and compliance Mentor junior engineers and support team development Support business development , including proposal preparation, client presentations, and pursuit of new opportunities Typical Projects (Phoenix Market) Stormwater and drainage design for land development projects Flood control and surface water infrastructure FEMA floodplain studies and Area Drainage Master Plans Watershed planning and flood mitigation Urban stormwater systems and low-impact development (LID) solutions Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or related field Professional Engineer (PE) license in Arizona (or ability to obtain via reciprocity) Typically 8-12+ years of experience in water resources engineering and project management Strong experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, FLO-2D) Experience with FEMA processes, floodplain mapping, and drainage studies preferred Familiarity with Arizona drainage criteria manuals and permitting processes Core Competencies Hydrology and hydraulics expertise Project management (budget, schedule, scope) Client relationship management Technical leadership and QA/QC Regulatory and permitting knowledge Team leadership and mentorship Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Senior Civil/Coastal Engineer
